I see that I was mistaken. Bearcat33 is a troll.
Can we get a moderator in here?

Yes, by all means, bring in a mod to eject morons who enter threads
for no other purpose than to harass the OP.
Moron, if you don't like my opinions, WHY are you even in this thread?
Get out.

Moron.

Your comments have no capacity to insult. Any thinking person
reading them can clearly see how asinine and self-referential your
petty attempts at harassment have been.
You don't like my opinions, get out of the thread, simple.
But you're obviously too stupid to do that.
I NOM YOUR HATE. NOM!

Aliasalpha: What hardware does it detect? Do you have to use the generic vga device?

I can't double check as I haven't reinstalled it since the last time I updated the phone's firmware. As far as I remember it detects the default VGA device and a SoundBlaster.

Wishbone: Can you play Civ2 on it? :-D

No, but I can play Solitaire on it. That's almost as good, right?
avatar
michaelleung: But can it run Crysis?

Ooh, that's my next project! :D
Keep in mind that some of the newer games on this site, like Psychonauts or Second Sight, actually do have system requirements that aren't necessarily a "given" for every GOG user. Even if the system requirements are redundant in most cases, it seems like it wouldn't take much time or cost much money to post them... And they just might help...

Which is probably the reason why they DO write the minimum requirements on each game page. Anything else?
avatar
bearcat33: I seem to recall seeing a link here on Gog that led to a Youtube "movie" demonstrating
a series of games....not exactly what I think of as a demo, but this really is essential.

Sure, at the bottom of each and every page is a link to GOG.com's Youtube channel. I'll let you find the link yourself. They haven't made movies for every game they sell, but other people have probably made some and made them available on youtube so it shouldn't be too hard to find videos of most games (yes, that's most, I realise that probably not all games have been recorded and uploaded).
Take a look in the demo thread that I linked, it contains links to the original demos that the publishers made available so I cannot say wether they work or don't on your or anyone else's system. They have not been patched to the latest versions (how often do patches happen for demos anyway?), they are not bundled with DOSbox/ScummVM (for the cases where it matters), nor have the installers been replaced so some are probably 16-bit and thus won't run and/or install on 64-bit systems. But there you have it. Demos.

Huh? *Goes to look*
Oh... You know, I never saw those before. Whose idea was it to put slightly-darker grey text against a grey background?
In any case, those are just the MINIMUM requirements, not the RECOMMENDED requirements. It'd be nice to get the recommended stats too, even if they weren't included with the original game...
The hell? I got low rated.

I'll just leave this here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfrTAt_m1po

bearcat33: Maybe I overlooked something, but it appears as if GoG fails to list
system requirements for the games it sells
. Now, we all know that the
"minimum specs required" are frequently misleading and sometimes
an outright lie, but this really is essential information, even when buying
a new game.
avatar
Ralackk: The system requirements are on the game page under the information about the game right next to the large age rating picture.

You should look better next time, 'cause the games have system requirements, bearcat33.
avatar
bearcat33: Wouldn't hurt if Gog would provide links to free Demos, either.

Be polite and treat others just like you want them to treat you. If you want to be treated like a moron, okay, but don't cry when you get banned.
