Rodzaju: Talking of b'days, I've got an idea for mine.
In my office, it's traditional to bring cakes for everyone else on your b'day.
Always struck me as back assward ;p
I always book my b'day off, so I never have!
Anyway, throughout this year, I've been gifted way more games than I could ever have expected (both through contests & just plain generosity).
I'm planning to give away GOGs instead.
2 options:
A) I offer each of the games I've received.
B) I total up the cost & offer this amount in games.

A would exclude anyone who doesn't want that particular game.
B risks the first few people opting for TW2 or other high cost games, reducing the overall number of giftees.

Opinions?
I like the sound of A, then more people would win.

LoL yeah. Here it is traditional for someone else to bake you a cake.

C) You offer n1 $6 and n2 $10 games. Where n1 and n2 are equal to the games you own.

If you do this in one big contest, then players could choose if they want an n1 or n2 game. First come first served based on ranking. Or do it in multiple contests with $10 games at top prize and $6 as second. Or 1 $10 and 1 $6 for 1st. Then one $10 for 2nd. And one $6 for 3rd.

Run multiple contests depending on how many 10 vs 6 $ games you own. Then do a random draw for the remainder. Only non-winning contestants who participated in your other contests can enter. ??

icepowdah: I was looking for johnny's something ... so goode is actually a word? or some archaic form .. or street form or smth like that ...
I didn't know it either. I just now did a Google search with Johnny B Good. Google offered to correct the search for Johnny B Goode. A little more searching and I find a Wiki article claiming that Goode is British surname. So B would be a middle initial and Goode would be Johnny's last name? So its a lyrical play on Johnny be good?

Edited the above post and had one reply merged with the other.
I don't know what to do for round 4, it's definitely gotta be faster, I think. This round had some nice stuff to it, but round 1 was probably the most successful. (In that one, it was one question = one game. The problem I had with that was it took all of 10 mins to give away three games, lol, didn't seem worth it).

Goode is the guy's ;last name, I guess. He's the one that's playin the guitar just like he's ringin a bell. Again, whatever that means. :)

icepowdah: I would say option C .. total up the costs and devise an hierarchical scheme with 9.99 and 5.99 games similar to this contest... would reach more ppl than gifting a TW2 and will also give a winner access to a game like planescape .. or sanitarium of his choice
Elk, yes that's correct.

That's his name he's also learned how to "b. goode" at guitar. It's a pun or... I forget what that's called.

MoP: See ice? You both won! Music was the best category to choose! :P

That was like a decent movie, fun with a twist at the end. Thanks again stoic (especially since my birthday started ~25 minutes ago, that's the fastest b-day gift ever ;]) and congrats to all the winners! See ya next round!
Happy birthday and congrats!

Everyone should have received for round 3, now if only technical support will take care of round 2, we'll be set!

Yeah, it doesn't feel much like a contest if it's over so soon after starting. And I like how multiple rounds fosters deeper clue hunting. If there are too few rounds it feels more like guessing than problem solving. It's not as satisfying to win or lose so easily. Tough to balance. But I've liked every variant you have tried thus far. You seem to be of the mind to refine this concept of yours. I look forward to the future of stoicsentry's epic contests! And I hope you don't mind if this inspires me to host my own variants on the theme?

The more the merrier, WhiteElk.

For those that aren't going to run contests but maybe have some ideas to share about the format, or anything about the contests in general in terms of recommendations, please do message me with your ideas.

Oh, and if I could ask someone to bump this topic every once in awhile, it would be much appreciated. I often have the last post, then have to bump it for a new contest but I can't, and it gets buried!

You can self-bump now. As long as more than 10 minutes have passed since the last post, another post by the same user won't be auto-merged with the old one.

Cool thanks Zchinque.
Bump
From now on, if you won last round, you can still play in the next round. It's fine. So that means MoP, 8bit, Icepowdah and WhiteElk are eligible for this one as well.

I have an idea for a new type of contest that should be interesting, but that will have to wait for round 5.

Until then, we will tide things over for a bit with a mini-round, round 4. Just a single question, really.

I'm looking for a personal "mission statement". In other words, a personal philosophy for day to day life, a few words that can guide someone to create a better life for themselves. For example, we used to have a little plaque up in my house when I was a little kid that said "Live simply, laugh often, love deeply." That's the kinda thing I'm talking about.

Has to be 25 words or less, must use your own words and not be lifted from somewhere else.

I'm sure there will be a bunch of cool suggestions but in a couple days, I will pick just one and that person will get a 5.99 GOG of their choice.

Thanks for playing, and in the meantime I will work on developing round 5.

Damn... so I guess we can't use "Be excellent to each other, and PARTY ON DUDES!" :(

LOL nope.

My god though, I've just thought something up and I think you can't wait to see what I have in mind for round 5 if you want to see more of a real "game" and more "teamwork"!!! Not your basic trivia stuff...

But I've gotta get some answers for mini-round 4 first... haha

So just in case visitors haven't seen the original post go back and read it for the question.

There are two kinds of people: those who don't take everything too seriously and those that are not taken too seriously by the rest.
