Nnexxus: Same here. Which makes me think this model could apply to GOG as well. Super-uber-pay-what-you-want-promos for some GOG titles would be great. If the said games do not sell very well without promos, it could be a nice way to make some money out of them, without any additionnal work.

You know what would be nice? Instead of having a $1.99 or $2.99 price tag for the reaaaaally old games from the 80s, GOG could adopt this pay what you want for them.
I mean having the game fixed on the catalogue for $2.99 or so, and having a whole promotion week for that title, then the other week for another title and so forth...
I bet the fans of those games would pay up for it, and more people who otherwise wouldn't be interested in paying $3 for them would end having the original game in their accounts for a "donation" of whatever low price. Sweet. ;)

I'm famous! =P
I don't know if this will work. If the market gets over-saturated with pay what you want combos, I see the average donation trending down severely.
Wonder if Ubisoft start it soon to throw off something like this.
"BUY THESE GAMES FOR WHATEVER YOU WANT!
Warning (letter size of 3): Constant internet connection is required to play games. Also only one game is redeemable and you have to pay over 20 dollars."

hornedry2k: After the Humble Indie Bundle a new Shopping Portal will be come online. I read this in a German Forum. They take the Principe of the Humble Indie Bundle and the Customer can pay what he want.
The Site will be release on Friday maybe.
It will starts with Indie Games like Azteka, Sleep in Death,MiniOne Racing asf.
After that they will try to get more Offers lke Audiobooks and Casual Games. Maybe the Site is interesting for Gog to get new Customers. They can offer some Games and Customers must to get create a Account.
I will follow this Site.
sounds a bit fishy

They aren't sure either if it's real or not. Some guy just posted the link and left it uncommented except that's "Jochen's Project".

Yes, you and akwater are. :)
Maybe GOG can work on a minimum payment of like $0.75 or whatever price, just like the minimum on that Sleep Is Death promotion.
I'd buy the 80s old games and it would be a cool sale to make during from like monday to friday. (Heck, I'd buy even Stonekeep on this promo. :p)

Lurked alittle more. Jochen, the guy doing this, made a deal with the developers:
70/30 division: 70% to developers, 30% to him. So this time you can't decide how you want to divide. It will be left constantly that way.
But you have the same payment methods. No hints if DRM free or not.
FYI, the guy who started this thread pretending he read about the project is actually the same person who'll be running givewhateveryouwant.com. hornedry2k used to be Jochen's standard user name all over the web. He's quite notorious in the German-speaking online world, as he can be a terribly annoying troll.
As for his business efforts, there's currently a lawsuit filed against him for selling software keys that were allegedly purchased with stolen credit card information. See http://www.gulli.com/news/g-data-einstweilige-verf-gung-gegen-gamerdeals-de-2010-03-25 (German only).
In the anything4free.de board linked previously, he says the new project is his final straw, if it fails he'll have to file for bankruptcy. He's posting in that forum because he still owes a lot of those people merchandise from a previous project.
And to round it all off: In the early 2000's, Jochen spent a couple of years in jail for fraud.
Make of that what you will.

Never really heard of him, but then again, I was only on the RPG maker community 8P

That's a bit more than just trolling going on there. If that's all true then he's... an Überschmuck. There. A new word. Just for him.
