Heh, thanks for offer man but it has one tiny problem. I sit in the back of my class and each time we are writing an exam my teacher stands right next to me so he can see into screens of all computers...so this wont do.

In for the $3 GOG game!

I would recommend "Starting out with Visual Basic" by Tony Gaddis. I took a course that used his Java textbook, and it is easy to follow along, with good examples.

Go figure, Tony Gaddis also has written a "Starting out with Visual C#" book as well, so you could always check that out too!

Detlik: Greetings everyone,
I have a problem. In my school its required I learn Visual Basic 2010. I know there are much better programming languages out there but unfortunately I have to learn this one. Guys, its mandatory there is nothing I can do about it. Please don't beat me with sock full of batteries.
What's with the useless apologies?

There is nothing wrong with VB.

The SAMS series in general are really solid - Teach Yourself Visual Basic 2010 in 24 Hours has already been mentioned and there is a similar book for C#, as well as the slightly more advanced C# Unleashed.

I would also strongly recommend checking out the previews on Google Books before making your choice - you can usually get enough from them to make sure that the book is pitched at the right level and covers the right material for you.

I think Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step is a good starting point for Visual Basic 2010.

Have a look here. The guy has about 200 videos covering Visual Basic from the basics (installing) all the way to GUI creation.

If you want dead tree stuff, I would not recommend the SAMS "teach yourself" books. They aren't too good imho. Try books from O'Reilly, Addison-Wesley or Microsoft Press. They have, on average, much better authors than the low-level publishers (SAMS, Wiley etc.).

If you know German I had some nice experiences with this.

If you find this useful, I would take Magicka off your hands ;-). But no pressure since this is fairly abstract advice after all :D.
