In my case would be mostly platformers. I've horrible reflexes and I'm perfectly able to drop four times in a row in the same pit of lava. As I'm very stubborn, I'll achieve it the fifth time... to die in the spikes next to it. :D

The good news is that when I get beat a game of this genre, I feel like a superman. :)

Don't give up yet, Fake_Sketch!. It's difficult, but possible. I've done about 54 runs and I managed to defeat it only 3-4 times (I managed to engage it about 10 times).

Goddammit shops, however. Never seems to have the items you need at a given moment... :D

Nonetheless, I really love this game. ;)

I got stuck for a while on that too, but I was finally able to do it. Then I went back through the level later and realized you were supposed to take a different route and did a facepalm.

I liked and finished Tomb Raider: Anniversary, but on a related note, I gave up on Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation rather early on. About an hour in it was apparent the designers were more invested in giving you as much puzzle-grief and map disorientation as possible, instead of an enjoyable action-adventure game in the vein of the first three in the franchise.

There were a few games I played nearly all of but hung up my spurs with toward the end. The Longest Journey was one, mostly because I was becoming a tad bored with it around chapter 9 or 10 (I forget) so I didn't bother finishing it. I think I used some arbitrary puzzle as a pretext to bow out. I actually liked the game, but frankly I would have rather explored April Ryan's funky Bohemian neighborhood of Venice for oodles of time than get bogged down in her save-the-world quest, which is a common problem I have with many games.

Freelancer was another one, a space-sim I mostly loved except that it was utilitarian and unyielding when it came to hewing to the demands of the plot if you wanted to eventually upgrade your ship and equipment. In other words the open-endedness of Sirius was mostly an illusion; you basically are railroaded into doing what the game wants most of the time. This was obnoxiously irksome to me to the point where I stopped playing somewhere in the final act of the game, because I no longer cared about Junk'ko Zane, Quintaine, Orillion of the Order, or any of these other yahoos and their war against the Nomads and resented being forced to fly for them. Where was my dialog option for: "Sorry, you've paid me well so far and its been an interesting ride, but I'm striking out on my own now. You're little intergalactic vendetta is no longer my problem--see ya!" Never did I so desperately want one in a story-driven game before. Thankfully, mods out there basically modify Freelancer into an open-ended sandbox game where you can go and explore and do whatever (even if the solar system and its missions are a little colorless, aside from the unique scenery).

Most adventure games make me give up...

I figured he wasn't including adventure games because they often consists of going from instance of getting stuck to another. I finally had to give up on King's Quest 1 when I was a kid. It wasn't until a couple years ago that I finally beat it.

I got stuck several times while playing Myst IV, and although I managed to figure out most of the puzzles, I had to use a walkthrough for two of them.

The second System Shock... had to give up at a boss fight very late in the game, because I could not find a way to beat it. Turned out later it was impossible. Anyway, haven't finished it to this very day.

however i feel i must spread my failure!

i gave up on:

Mario on the NES - Level 7-4. no matter what i tried i couldn't complete it - it was only until 4ish years ago i modded my PS2 to play NES games and was stuck again - i looked up how to complete it!

one level on chips challenge i tried so many times to complete the game offered me a skip! to this day i still cant complete that level!


Halo 2 PC - (still working on) but basically given up due to legendary on PC is stupidly hard! legendary on the other Halo games im fine!
