As title states I have these 2 spare titles for Steam going as I already own them.

First off, REP, I think as long as you have been an active community member for at least a month with 10 points which is easy enough to get you can enter.

No entering to pass the key onto someone else, you must want to own the game you choose.

State whether you would like to enter for Karateka or Blades of Time.

To enter I want you to post a link to a video of your favorite game from the 8Bit era so you are looking at Apple 2, C64, Spectrum, Amstard CPC464, BBC Micro, Electron and so on. If you find the game online, quite few are available to play in Java then post the link up to that also so others can play.

Then let me know why it is your favorite game from that era. It doesn't have to be war and peace.

For example my favorite game is Last Ninja 2 on C64 because it has amazing music, no fiddly jumping bits like the first game, the setting is awesome and it looks stunning. I played through it so many times during the 80's and still have my copy fully working on tape to this day, still play it I might add and went through it around 2 weeks ago.

So this competition is looking at some REALLY old GOG's, if you have never experienced the 8 Bit era this competition is a good way for you to discover where gaming got a foothold as entertainment in the 80's

I will run this competiton till 9PM UK time next Sunday (2nd June)

I'll enter for Blades of Time

Great giveaway, there are just so many great ones to pick from. I like RPGs so I'll list one of my favorite 8-bit RPGs:

Phantasy Star 1: (sega)

You got a cat follower, it had moving monster animations and a strong female lead character. Planetary travel, vehicles, 3d dungeon perspective, puzzles and so much more.
Not entering, just wanted to say thank you +1
IN! - For Blades of Time, cheers!

I had an Amstrad 464 that was given to me one christmas complete with about forty games (most of which were total gash), but the one joy that came with it was "How to be a Complete Bastard!". My friends and I were at the age where nothing was funnier than The Young Ones, Filthy Rich and Catflap and Bottom.

How to be a Complete Bastard! was loosly based on the book (? - I cant really remember it too well), and you basically play this guy at a party being a complete bastard. I remember screaming with laughter at being able to vomit, die from drinking bleach and so on. Never completed it (and I dont even know if thats actually possible), but I sank days of my youth into it laughing like a maniac and being quite happy at the constant array of deaths and arrests I made the protagonist go through.

Unfortunately, I never had a classic 8-bit gaming computer, but my favorite 8-bit game from my childhood was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the Game Boy Color. It's a fantastic RPG that's faithful to the movie while still being fun. I still have my original cart! :3 Probably the best licensed game I've ever played. Fun fact: it was the last Game Boy Color game ever made! (Chamber of Secrets even had a Game Boy Advance version, but it was a typical action-platformer and sucked ass).

Hope this thread wasn't delegated to only 8-bit computer games! XD If not, count me in for Karateka! Also, +1 and thanks for the giveaway!

Oh the hours I put into that game when I was younger...never actually beat it back then. Broke it out (I still own the original, lol) about a year ago and beat it first try...amazing how much easier games are when you're older and can think out a strategy, eh? If I didn't have 15 games yet to play between steam and gog I'd break it out again.

Blades of time, please and thanks!
Not entering, but wanted to thank you for your continued generosity Iain! +1

+1 to you Iain
Does...does Prince of Persia qualify? Think this was one of the first games I've played. If it does, then I'm in for Karateka!

Why I liked it? Was pretty interesting for an 8 year old, I guess :D But I don't think I've ever got that far, actually...

Thanks for the giveaway!!

Prince of Persia was groundbreaking when it came to the silky smooth animation, originally came out late 80's on the Amiga but did also hit the 8 bit platforms afterwards :)

Thanks !
I assume Game Boy games are acceptable tribute?

If so, I'm going with Link's Awakening - What I really loved, and love, about it is the whole surreal dream-like quality to it. Also, the game has some very nice puzzles and dungeons.

Yeah, Gameboy games are cool, so are early days of Amiga and Atari ST, no Megadrive or SNES though
Thanks, I'm in for Blades of Time

My favourite 8bit game is probably Pokemon Blue

I spent so much time on it XD
My favorite game was Prehistorik for DOS, which I played with a Hyundai 8088 PC. I liked this game because it has great music and graphics, and excellent gameplay.

I am in for Karateka
