No one seems to be making any modern plane flight sims anymore.
I was hoping GOG would bring some since the 80s and 90s had a very large number of flight sims released, but it looks like it isn't going to happen any day soon.
I am considering buy the Baron pack, though I am not sure if it will work fine with a modern joystick, plus I am not the biggest fun of WW1.
I already bought the F-18 game here, but that is not enough, and I am not even talking about the constant game crashes.
There are no other flight sims here so I started looking at other places. I find some of the Novalogic sims on Steam and D2D, but I doubt they will work under Vista 64.
So, what other solution does one have?
Have you considered this?
Look in the games catalog under simulation.
Ever tried LO:MAC? Hell of a hardcore game. Sadly it also required a hell of a hardcore GPU when it was released which is why I never owned it but the game seems pretty damned good

I have it on disc and from a digital shop, but it isn't modern. Thanks though.

I think I have an old copy of it somewhere. I forgot all about it. Not sure if it will run under Vista 64 though. IIRC it doesn't have campaigns, right? That would be a major blow, but I guess better than nothing.

Well, on GOG there's red baron, IL-2, the helicopter games (Apache vs. Havoc, and Comanche vs. Hokum)...
We had Operation Flashpoint here for some time, but it got removed. It has a bit of flying for both planes and helis. I would recommend you to get the OFP successor (ArmA2) if you don't mind playing the hole battle and not only the flight sim part. Also there's a mission editor in OFP, ArmA1 and ArmA2, so you can create your own flight missions in these three games.

This. And the same happened for me, as I didn't had a powerful PC back in the day.
There's also Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, which is hardcore too.
I just realized LOMAC comes with STARFORCE. Yeah, no thanks, I guess that was the reason I never played it lol.
I still have Falcon 4. From what I remember there are ton of fan made patches to make the game good. Between you and me (and the rest of the readers) not sure I want to do all that.
Perhaps I should just get the baron pack lol

LOL... yeah, I'm a bit disappointed on the lack of flight sims and strategy games here too, but I'm giving time to GOG to grow its catalogue. Put some trust in it, Mr. trustleft. ;)
Maybe we will get LOMAC and F4AF drm-free here, just have to wait...
And about the novalogic games: they are good and were good back in the day, but aren't that hardcore...it's more like playing for nostalgia. If you want it, be sure to get the novalogic pack on steam, it's like 15 games in one pack.

I didn't leave. it's eft, not left :p
The Novalogic games might be good, but, do they run under Vista 64? 64 being the worry.
The novalogic complete pack is good, but as I am paying the European Steam Tax, I have a feeling my american friends get to pay less than 66 euros for it.
I am not going to do that, plus I played most of the ground combat games when they were originally released, and from my experience, if one 3D game was sin ugly when it was released, it will not look better 10 years later.
Plus, the AI for all of the Delta Force games was a crime against humanity.
Yes...yes, I still liked their games lol.
There is a pack with the vehicles based sims from Novalogic, Armored Fist 3, F-16, F-22, Mig-29, Comanche 4, Tachyon the fringe, but it isn't dirt cheap either at almost 30 euros. I even have Tachyon on disc.
For now I just bought the Red Baron Pack.
There is also a Wings over Europe at gamersgate and from what I understand, its makers have also other sims.
Yes. If you like the IL-2 approach to flight sims, consider the Wings Over... games. They take the same approach (very customizable realism levels) and are pretty fun.
The ones I know of:
Wings over Europe
Wings over Vietnam
Wings over Israel (or something like that)
And I think they all merge, so you can just play one super-game.
If you want to find out a lot more about flight sims, have a look at simhq (http://www.simhq.com/). They have forums for many flight sims, and quite a few articles.
Never played it, and it's not really a traditional flight sim, but I've heard good things about Sky Odyssey on the PS2. It's not a particularly good looking game, but it's deeply entertaining along the lines of Pilot Wings from what I understand.
But we really do need a modern flight sim with modern visuals and updated flight physics with all the processing power that systems are capable of these days.

It's sad really.
Flight sims had the role of FPS games in the late 80's and 90's, more and more detailed, better and better graphics and physics. Now, the most advanced one is HAWX ffs.
Anyway, Wings over..... look really good and the site says DRM free too.

Oh sorry, typo, trusteft.
Hahaha and there was AI in delta force games? really?!
I thought it hadn't this thing called AI. Yeah, but as you did, I still liked their games. The only one I haven't played even the demo, is Tachyon.
Too bad they're late to release Delta Force: Angel Falls. :(
About the 64-bit compatibility, sorry but I don't know anyone who has purchased the pack yet. Maybe I will, if if gets a deal for $20-$30.

I totally agree.
Now with six and eight core CPUs, PCs could easily handle all the physics, plus Crysis-like graphics.
Mig Alley.
though it needs a bit of tweaking to get working these days. not impossible though.
