And I still love this place and you won't be able to chase me off, even with all this stereotypical points of view. ;)
Stereotypes are completely stupid -- I'm happy to see you defy them. I think thats perhaps what this comes down to -- how many women do.

I've recommended this site to her several times (it's got Tex Murphy, In Cold Blood, and several freebies, after all), but I don't think she's taken the bait yet.

- I saw a female gamer the other day.
- Horrible creatures. I avoid them whenever I can.

Right, its pistols at dawn. You take the .38 special, I'll take the one mounted onto this handy T72

Oh well if we can bring in things from games we play, I'm a Warhammer 40000 player so I'll just bring the entire Dark Angels space marine chapter

My eldest daughter would like to kill you right now*. As she feels insulted by the very notion that she would play any such games endorsed by some idiot she doesn't even know.
Ok, so she pretty much only plays DS/Wii games right now -- mainly because it's not a huge problem if she breaks the DS and we got a ton of games on it for free =) And the Wii just happens to have a few games she likes as well. And given her age, it's a perfect system to get her used to using a controller (and even that one is still a little too large for her).
Ultimately though, my daughter is going to be a huge fan of platformers, she's already hooked on Mario (I personally can't stand anything Mario myself) and she likes to watch me play Trine. She appears to enjoy shooters too despite the fact that I really don't want her playing those just yet...
* Not really, but the looks she's giving are evil. Pure evil.
You got many games for the DS for free?? Where ?? please tell me!! :D

Because it would mean I'm actually a freak instead of nerd, who, for example:
- hates MOOs,
- loves Dark Messiah (and all its 'bloody' parts)
- spent a great deal of her life playing Thief(s) & Thievery...
- ... all Infinity Engine games...
- as well as most of the games from 'What's this game' thread
But on the other hand, I'm so used to opinions already voiced in this thread that my only reaction should be: 'meh'.
And I still love this place and you won't be able to chase me off, even with all this stereotypical points of view. ;)
Ah, so you are a girl who games then? What was your favorite part of Dark Messiah? For me, it was hearing that sexy demon Xana muttering all kinds of innuendo to me, while I was fighting. : )

I am an avid girl gamer and have been since I was 5.
I have owned an Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, SNES, PS1, PS2, XBOX, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, XBOX 360, Wii, PS3 and various iterations of PC. I build my own PCs and I love upgrading them and making them shiny. I also work in a very IT based industry and I'm working towards an IT degree. Originally, I was accepted into Uni to do Comp. Games Technology but dropped out of College. I had a talent for coding and ran a semi-successful MUD with a friend that taught me a lot about the trade...
I play mostly RPGs and Adventure games, but I play stuff like Gears of War and all the other famous FPS and stuff. I don't like to play multiplayer, because I don't enjoy competitiveness so much and I'm naturally competitive.. I like to play for fun. I also enjoy the odd MMO, mostly WoW and EVE Online.
The only exception is RTS. I suck so bad at them. I can deal with turn based, and enjoy HOMM, X-COM and such, but RTS I am royally bad at.
Just thought I'd chime in :D.
Heheh, wouldn't it be cool to have a female version of marcus phoenix character when you play online for example? I always wondered if female gamers didnt care about having a male soldier player character for example, when they are playing a game online.

Unfortuatly we're still in an age where if you were to introduce gender choice in such titles you end up with design garbage like this or and [url=http://www.hiphopgamershow.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/gears_09_cover_by_jim_lee.jpg]this. Which don't cater for females at all.

My brother would agree with you on this one ;) I however, gladly got rid of Xana when opportunity presented itself >:)
What I love about this game is how it accommodate stealth-based characters. With little patience and some planning, most enemies could be tricked to kill themselves or be dispatched with one strike.
Most action games rely on quite different gameplay and I usually give them wide berth - Dark Messiah is one of few exceptions.
It has some drawbacks - before Ubisoft, all M&M games were connected to each other, so DM is not really 'Might & Magic' game for me.
And on the more illogical side, of all characters in the game I liked Arantir the most >:) Too bad there was only one outcome to the main fight.

For the Gears girl, she's sort of appropriate for the world, its a macho steroid happy universe and she looks like she'd fit right in, the female chopper pilots seem to fit into the trope pretty well. In fact, Anya is the only character in the entire gears universe who seems remotely sane.
I sort of hope they have a female playable character or 2 in Gears 3 but they won't be able to win either way, she'll either be characterised as a macho freak like the male soldiers or she'll be remotely normal and be accused of being wimpy because she's a girl. Its not like they need another whiny bitch anyway, they've got Baird & Dom...
I am glad to see the emergence of more female gamers though, cross gender acceptance is one of the important stages towards gaming being seen as a legitimate leisure activity and not just an evil child perverter.
As an aside, a few weeks ago my lecturer for screenwriting was saying that she was a big fan of Silent Hill, I fancied her before but I do even more now...

Company my wife works for deals with the disposal of items that aren't sold. They get a lot of DS games sent their way and allow the staff to take what they want before destroying the rest to recycle the components.

Awesome! Can you send me some ?? :D

Xana was fun to have for the ride. : ) Too bad her demon claws and tail were for all means useless. :D I kept her one time, and dumped her on another run through, just to see the name endings. I think there 3 possible endings depending on whether you get rid of her, and save the mage. Xana was such a hot demon, yet so insecure, getting jealous of that hot mage. :D
I couldnt get to do much stealth attacks in the game, i think only the daggers were good for that, and they werent that powerful. Most of the time I went for the gravity traps, tossing the enemies on the fire, through cliffs, dropping big weights on them, etc. I suppose I wasnt much of a combat warrior. I didnt know most of the time what to do when the power attack glow was enabled too. :D yeah, I think ubisoft only slapped the M&M title for merchandising reasons, that's it. The game isnt related to any of the other M&M games. Combat-wise, I've read about a game which is supposed to have better combat than Dark Messiah. It's an older game called Severance blade of darkness. Havent played it myself, but i would if i found it. (maybe GOG can include it on their catalog. :D)
