Can someone please explain to me why we can't use GIF images? None of mine work on here but on other sites they do. WTF?

GOG is aiming for a simpler, less disruptive presentation (this is presumably the same reason why there is no signature feature here); animations are distracting and annoying.

All avatar pics uploaded here are rescaled to 49x49px and recompressed in jpg.
I think it's a good choice, animated GIFs are really annoying, too distractive IMO. And some are really really long to load, (sometimes it can freeze the page you're reading) and I know what I'm talking about, the one you want to upload is way too long (and too well known also :p ).

No GIFs is always a good thing. They're invariably obnoxious and annoying.

Odd, the gif you attached is actually a shortened version of the one I've seen around. Perhaps that's a good thing.

It seems fast-forwarded to me. But maybe it because of my browser... and it's another good argument against animated GIF here, the speed, depending on how it has been done, can be different with each browser...

GIF is a lame format anyway. PNG, on the other hand...
But there's no difference in how they're handled here anyway. You can attach both formats to a post, they just won't show up as anything other than attachments. Which is a good thing, IMO.

I find anything that starts animating automatically becomes annoying. And I'll go to extra steps to stop it.
