So I get any GG game I want, and all I have to do is watch a sixty second ad? Seems too good to be true.
Oh, I get it. It's sort of like how Area 51, Psi-Ops, and Full Spectrum Warrior were made F2P. It just lets you play a game for free with ads. I like the idea.
Limitations:
1. You can only select from a short list of games
2. You only get one game at a time for free, you can buy more slots
3. There's some sort of cooldown when you remove a game from a slot
Well... I do believe it'll work like this upon launch, but then, after luring suffictient ammount of people, GG will try to smuggle more ads, preferrably into the games themselves, perhaps even interrupting gameplay. At least that's what I think.
Heh I tried to play Space Rangers 1 when VOID was still called FreeGames and the thing bugged out on me. CTD'ed no matter what I did. I may try it again at a later date.

Cool concept though. Too bad Gamersgate's not marketing it. I swear I wouldn't know about it had it not been for GOG.

For number 3, I believe the cooldown is for after you put a game in the slot, not after you remove it.

Indeed for # 3 there is a 14 day wait from the time you put a game into the slot. Your first choice is covered by "Newbie Protection [on which there is no FAQ available, though a link tries to point to one]" meaning you can get a free instant slot removal once.

The ads aren't much of an intrusion, I don't see them being added to the games themselves because that would require software devs to do some major rewrites of game code. The way it works now is the ad player "hooks" into the launch process of the game executable [where normal DRM check would be, making me think that the DRM check calls a modified DLL function that, instead of checking normal authentication, plays ads]. You can see this by paying attention when launching the game, the ads will play then briefly the desktop will be shown before the game loads [on fast systems you may not notice anything].

My only quibbles are that a) the ads are way out of date [Cataclysm ad keeps showing up for me], and b) no volume regulation between ads [one for Gods Online always plays at max volume which is quite annoying]
Lots of PI titles in there...decent demo service..
Are the games like Gamefly with the shitty "no access to setting up game options(beyond stuff like controls)/low resolutions" crap?

Well, I 'rented' Risen yesterday and so far it is the full game with all the options to change whatever you want. Even has the achievements. Only thing, as mentioned before, is the crappy ads. And yes, every time I load the game I get the Cata ad along with a random 2nd one.

Same game I am currently using a slot for. The games are basically the full game [no demo limitations, no lack of options [unless the game itself lacks configuration options]] with ads grafted onto the startup routine.

Thanks to both of you for the infos. :)
Looks like I will finally play Risen!

Also, if there are any NES fans out there, Dark Void Zero is actually quite fun, and would be worth checking out through this service.

No... no no no, not any game. Only the ones that have signed up for Void.
Where is the downloader for GG Void? I set it to Risen, but then didn't see any downloader pop up.... "Huh?" I said. Is the downloader invisible? I wouldn't like that at all!
