SirPrimalform: No, they go in the component section. The component cables have 5 plugs, two audio and 3 video. They go in the inputs on the right (the ones marked component).

lowyhong: Ah, so basically instead of using the default red, white and yellow cables, I get the blue, green, red, red and white cables?
The blue and green cables are for hi-def, which the wii doesn't have unless you use Dolphin emulation. If any of that stuff above doesn't suit you, there are cables that you can plug multiple red-white-yellow plugs into, and just switch from one to the other with a tab on the side. My brother's bedroom has this set up for the Sattalite box and the DVD player.

Yes, but don't get any component cable you find. Unlike the HDMI cables for the PS3 which are generic, the component cables for the Wii don't work for any other device.
You want these: http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=117711&currency=USD&catalogId=10001&tranId=0&lastAction=setCurr&storeId=10001&languageId=-1&categoryId=63205&ddkey=http:SetCurrencyPreference

While the Wii doesn't output HD, it can do 480p through component cables so he'll still see improvement (especially since the TV isn't having to de-interlace the picture). He'll both be getting the best picture it's possible to get out of a Wii and also won't have to swap cables.

Yup. This'll give you the option 480p (the best the Wii can do) and means you won't have to swap cables. Remember to select 480p in the options menu and give OmegaX the solve credit (if this is what you go with).

Seems like the most convenient solution too lol, since I don't know if I can find the other converters suggested in the other posts. I'll check out the electronics stores nearby tomorrow and see how much the cable costs.

Yes. That is component, and that will allow you to get progressive output on the wii. Still standard def, but better than composite.

Edit, and it will allow you to not have to swap cables.

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/wii-component-av-cable-6ft-4373 A cable like this one is what you need.

Edit 2: This is the cheapest I've seen and it may ship internationally. Dunno.

Yeah, I had to order mine online. The component to HDMI isn't a bad choice, but then you'll need to buy the component cable anyways. (you could get a composite to HDMI, but there's less point in that IMO, unless you get a converter with a very good upscaler).

You'll need to remember to get a female-to-female component cord/adaptor as well (or see if there is a third party adaptor for the Wii with female component ends) as the adaptor you have has male ends, as does the Nintendo component cord.

Does the Wii component cable handle 480i, too (I assume it does because the Wii is capable of the output)? I ask because we have a CRT with component inputs, back when that was a new thing I guess, and it doesn't handle progressive.

Edit: This is what you'll need, one with all five inputs and outputs (including the stereo ones, which wouldn't be necessary on a TV with the female ends -- most TVs still have them, I believe) because of the specific adaptors your TV uses:

I believe so. The fact that you have to manually switch it to 480p via the options menu suggests that it can operate in 480i with the component cable. If it was one mode per cable type then it'd just switch automatically.

You will get nicer and more vibrant colours via component.
The European equivalent is RGB scart which is a different form of component. I have RGB scart cables for both my GC and my Wii and they improved the picture a lot on my CRT.

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm strongly interested in getting a SCART converter because then I could get the best possible output from my SEGA Genesis without modifying it. My Genesis is a bit busted up though, so it might not make much difference, lol.

Ah okay. Nah it's not what I'm looking for but thanks anyway! We're going to see if we can find some sort of adapter later to convert the 3 blue/red/green cables to a yellow one. If that fails then we'll probably check out the component cable suggested by OmegaX.

Blue/red/green is component.

o.0

Yellow usually means composite (which is what you usually get with the Wii) .

I meant the one that comes with the TV. In the pictures I uploaded, the cable is missing because I unplugged it. If we can find a sort of adapter to convert that to a yellow female end (my dad's friend thinks he saw one at a hardware store), then we may be able to solve the problem.

I think.

-edit- Gotta sincerely apologize if my posts don't make sense to those more tech savvy. I know next to nothing about these things :X
