I was browsing amazon.de, and I found so many of these Collectors' Edition games that aren't available anywhere else in the world. I already know about some exclusive to Germany and a few European countries, but others, like Risen, are new to me. Take a look at a few examples:

Drakensang Collector's Edition
Gray Matter Collector's Edition
Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword Collector's Edition
Edna and Harvey Special Limited Edition (because why stop at Collector's Edition?)
Divinity 2 Collector's Edition
Neverwinter Nights 2 Chaotic Evil
Risen Collector's Edition

Welp. I guess that settles it. As a self-respecting gamer, I now find it mandatory to move to Germany with immediate effect.

Yeah, but sometimes it takes forever for them to get games. Wasn't it just a couple months ago that they finally got Doom?
It's okay. The wait's worth it. In another month or two, they'll get the Doom Special Limited Collector's Edition.
I personally hate having stuff in my house and these boxes just add to the clutter. I travel a lot so I will always go for the digital version. Unless the Collector's Edition adds some content that I find mandatory, I will not buy it. Not even if I'm a fan of the series. In fact, the only CE that I own is that of SC2 and that was bought to me as a present.

Not exactly. The game was released around here back in the 90s. And even with the restrictions put on it later, you could still get hold of a (legal) copy, if you knew where to look.

It's just that these restrictions were finally lifted a few months ago.

BTW, I wasn't even aware that the NWN 2 CEs were only available in Germany. O_o
I have it, and I'll say one thing: the big box is at least big enough to hold the add-on DVD cases as well. Other than that, it's really nothing to write home about. Oh, and there's also another CE, the Lawful Good edition.

You're right it's not just exclusive to Germany. It's just that it's painfully hard to find elsewhere, even in the UK :( (at least online)
We just love Special Editions. Something you can put on the shelf and admire.

However this is not the sacred land. One example:
In France you can buy the fantastique Intégrale Harry Potter Edition limitée spécifique with a wonderful box and your own elder wand (La baguette de Sureau :) ):
http://www.amazon.fr/Int%C3%A9grale-Harry-Potter-Blu-ray-sp%C3%A9cifique/dp/B005EOU9LW

In germany you just get an 8 blu-ray set with the most ugly box ever designed. It screams "must be thrown away immedtialy". :(

I don't even like harry potter but that looks damn fancy.
Well, the downside to German collector's editions is the German localization which is usually inferior to the original audio ;)
Of course, this doesn't apply to German productions (Drakensang, Edna and Harvey, Risen).
We did get the NWN 2 Limited Edition which contained the same new content as both the EU Lawful Good and Chaotic Evil Editions. However I believe they also contained the Original NWN + Expansions
You'd have thought that what with the total lack of competition in Germany (what with most games being banned) publishers wouldn't feel the need to try so hard.

They did. Thankfully, only in English. The German dub for NWN was pretty lame.

Well, most games is a bit far fetched. It's actually getting a lot better. You would be surprised what games got released uncencored in the past years. I guess it's hardly worse than Japan or Australia.

I think it's that people over here are more "collectorable" than others. And we like retail more than DD services.

Japan's problem isn't so much censorship (which only seems to apply to sexual content) but the suppression of the PC market.

As for retail, it's totally dead here for PC games. Unless you're talking about online stores like Amazon. Brick and mortar stores are 95% console focussed. Or more.
