I wonder if the store bought German version has an English option. I'm guessing the answer is yes(because it is a Steam game). Can any German GOGer who has purchased Skyrim from a store in Germany tell me if the German store bought version has an English option or not?

The English version isn't on the disc, but that doesn't prevent you from changing the language settings for Skyrim in Steam. Once you do that, Steam will automatically download the English language files. Be patient - it's a hefty download.

I'm not going to make a remark about the benefits of digital releases or the even the benefits of Steam. Nah, that would just be uncalled for ;-P.

As opposed to being able to just select the language off the disc like you can with 90% of the games out there, including the PS3 version of Skyrim, instead of having to wait four hours for it to download?

German version of Skyrim for PS3 has no English option. German version of Skyrim for XBOX360 = Deutsch only.

The problem is that yet again games have exceeded the storage limits of the predominant medium. E.g. Shogun II comes around 25 GB. You don't put that in boxes anymore. It is now cheaper to manufacture for the german market than simply make a euro version that gets shipped with all languages, as it was 5 - 10 years ago. But on the internet size doesn't matter anymore, so you can simply put everything together.

IIrc, the PS3 uses bluerays, so that isn't a problem (yet).

That's a fair point, although the German version of Oblivion was in English and special versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas had to have "special" versions produced for the German market thanks to censorship.

Other than that, the only German game that I have on the PS3 that doesn't provide an English version is Dead Space.

Nevermind, you are correct. The German version for the PC has no English option.

Definitely. My GOTY version of Oblivion adapts its language to the PS3 language setting. My PC version and the expansion packs are only in German though.

It's sad that Oblivion GOTY Edition here is Deutsch only because here you can get it in stores right now for 10 euro. :)

Well, to be fair, the German version of Oblivion isn't all THAT bad, and the German version of Skyrim was absolutely top. The translations of the Elder Scrolls games have always had a fair bit of effort put into them.

But yeah, I picked up my copy of Oblivion GOTY for the PS3 for 20 euros off the Software Pyramide so that my girlfriend could play it.
