Logic wins over regulations? Whaaa..?
Good for them. Civil public reaction, valid points vs crazy talk, and some good may come of this.

Very good.
And of course the publishers would like it, so they don't need to make/spend on several versions of the same game (one being the original and the others censored), and patches and ratings for each of them.
Now this mess should end in Australia too. And here in Brazil there isn't much of a discussion, but a few games were banned at retail, even Counter-Strike and EverQuest were banned.

lol... I don't think so. In german TV we still have some strange educational advertisings. For example "Where is Klaus?". It's a spot (actually about internet) where a mother opens the door for neo-nazis and porn producers, kindly showing the way to Klaus' room. At the end of the spot a child abuser (don't know how to call them in english) enters the house, asking for little Anna to show her "a bunny". Of course the mother let her daughter go with him, smiling from one ear to the other.
There's a fourth "real bad thing" in the spot. make a guess what it is... Or just watch the spot -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuRjUYhXUWw
I don't know what to say... They're putting shooters in a row with child abusers, neo-nazis and acting in porn movies. You're right, something kicked in... But I doubt that it was common sense...
Annother good (and newer) one is ending with the question "What to do if kids are discovering video games?". The basic message is a good one, but the way they're providing it... It sounds like "Oh my god, my son is playing video games. We're all doomed." -.- Instead of saying something helpful like "Watch the PEGI-rating" (or in case of Germany the USK-rating, which you can't miss), they're frightening people with this kind of dramatized questions.
Then there was the cheat during the german video games award... Three games have been nominated by an experts jury in the category "Best International Game". The main jury (consisting of politicans mainly) had to choose between Dragon Age, Uncharted 2 (this game nearly got me to buy a Playstation oO) and Professor Layton 2. Well... Forget about Professor Layton. It's a Nintendo DS- game I've never heard about. So the real choice was between Uncharted and Dragon Age. But those games have a serious problem: Dragon Age is a blood bath and in Uncharted they're shooting as much as in any James Bond movie.
Guess what the main jury did. They ignored the nominations of the experts jury and declared Anno 1404 (a german game and the winner in the category "Best National Game") as winner in the category "Best International Game".
Common sense about video games? Not in Germany ;-)

Well, everyone in Germany with a little bit of intellect not only gamers, but newspapers, tv and internet made fun of that "German Video Games Award". But the problem was NOT only the jury, but the nommination and everything else.. did you know that nominations are only made from the publishers and initializers of this... "Award"!? This whole thing is just a shame.
And I just wait for the next depressed bullied kid with no friends and left his whole life alone, that has no graduation after leaving school after attended to one for at least 10years... I would made a bet with everything I have that this is the time where politicians will repeat their speeches about computer games are the cause of all evil in society....
Sorry I got a bit angry... hope you get what I mean.
