I'm not saying I'd donate myself per se, but isn't donating to defend a douchebag better than getting a really bad, high profile precedent set?

Also, most of the people in this thread still seem to be coloring their perception of his situation with how much they like his personality. I mean come on, it's not like him popping off in a Youtube video would prevent Sony from burying this guy in litigation.

If the EFF or the like takes his case I will be donating to them.

Well, being a jerk off kid is what most people here are taking issue with. Of course most young boys are jerk offs but we "old" fellows tend to forget that part.

According to Sony, he's doing great harm to their business by having completed the PS3 hack pioneered by fail0verflow. So now anyone can sign and run anything on their PS3 and the PS3 treats it the same as code from Sony (firmware code as well). Yes, it means you can play pirated games on the PS3, or re-install your Linux distro, or just use it for whatever you feel like.

Yes, or your car or anything else you "buy". Sony wants you "buy" your PS3 but then wants to tell you how you can play with it. Most people bagging on this kid do have a problem with that, I'm not sure why they're letting their dislike for the messenger make them do 180s.

It was advertised fairly early on in the PS3's lifecycle. It was driven primarily by the announcement of a version of Yellow Dog Linux specifically made for PS3 and sort of went on from there.

I'm not chilling out. If he continues to pull these stunts, it's not just his money that goes down the shitter. He's disgusting vermin that only gets away with being an asshole because he's at the forefront of the modification wars. The sooner he loses, the sooner he can disappear into the void.

What you're saying is like saying that you don't like what Wikileaks is doing because you think Julien Assange is an asshole. Geohot and Julien Assange's personalities don't matter, it's what they're actually doing that's important.

Yeah making a rap video is a bit immature, but I'm not going to switch sides and support Sony in screwing over customers because of it.
