His 'hardman' expressions are very funny. I'm sure he's really a great guy away from the internet.

hedwards: No, the reason why the PS3 lost the Other OS option is because Sony is run by a bunch of money grubbing pirates. They had already yanked the feature from the Slim prior to his announcing his ability to crack it. Sony then felt obligatory to give a stout fuck you to the owners of older models by removing the feature.
avatar
Phosphenes: I can't believe they made it possible to install a separate OS and then expect it not to get hacked or changed. For the past couple of years, every piece of news I hear about the big gaming companies, the more I hate them.
It was pretty locked down. There were certain things like the GPU which couldn't be accessed even with the Otheros feature enabled. Which is largely why they were willing to allow the feature.

eyeball226: As far as I know, they only included it as a form of tax evasion; it allowed them to class it as a personal computer.*
As much as GeoHot is a complete arse, I'm glad the PS3 was hacked (by the failoverflow guys) and I hope Sony lose the case.

GeoHot's still a dick though.

* I believe they did a similar thing with either the PS1 or the PS2, including a BASIC disc in some countries so they could claim it was a PC.
Yes indeed his is. It pissed me off that he announced that he could crack the thing and then failed to deliver at that time. So Sony did some patching to make it supposedly impossible to crack and took away the Otheros feature. Sure it's not geohot's fault directly, but he did kind of provoke it.

He seemed very interested in calling Sony's sexuality into question, leading me to conclude he's very insecure in his own.

Do corporations even have gender?

From what I recall reading on this accusation, the law which it was claimed Sony was trying to get around was repealed a couple of years before the PS3 was released, making the claim not hold much water. Sony are still complete wankers, but it doesn't seem like they were using OtherOS as a tax dodge.

Ah, the original thing with the BASIC disc probably got mixed up with OtherOS then, my bad.

Aliasalpha: Who the hell is this bastard anyway?
avatar
bansama: The reason the PS3 lost it's Other OS option.
You're blaming the wrong party on that. He broke through the hypervisor with a not very useful hack and Sony took away Other OS. It's like your buddy talking shit to someone in the bar who then punches you in the face, you would blame your buddy?

Well, it turns out that my assumptions were correct; this man is an irredeemable asshole. This display of ignorance will come back to haunt him in court.
Maybe, I doubt it matters what he does since the judge seems to be firmly in Sony's camp right now.

Why is he an irredeemable asshole? He's protesting against an 800 pound gorilla, would you suggest he get into a fistfight instead? He's saying "fuck you, your legal abuse is wrong" and you know what? It is. Why are you judging the message by the deliveryman anyway? Damn, even Sarah Palin has said shit I agree with, because she was right. Is she mostly right, in my mind? No, not really, but when she is she is.

The above brought to you by "the league of those against fallacies of association".

bansama: Put it this way, that option was only removed after his first little claim for fame as "l33t PS3 h@ck0rz" or however little children write it these days.
avatar
pops117: I find it funny and sad at the same time Sony got itself into armwrestling with a teenage boy. Then they just remove one of their product's praised feature just to pursue its little childish game.
I just... I don't know anymore, they both seem like two little boys waving for attention.
Yeah except Sony's the one that punched every PS3 owner in the balls, not GeoHot.

Last I checked Sony isn't a prepubescent teenage kid. Although from the way they act you wouldn't know that, true.

Thank you, I thought I was going insane, no one seems willing to lay the blame for Sony's poor actions at Sony's feet (where it belongs).

No. You're not insane. You just haven't been won over by repeated attempts by the industry to blame their alienation of their consumer base on the fact that one or two of them are unreasonable. It's the same kind of bullshit we get over DRM, only even less justified. They weren't losing any money through customers gaining greater freedom of use of the console.

It's just that Sony loves control and they've been exercising a very heavy handed control across the board for about a decade now.
I don't have much in the way of sympathy for that guy. He's dumb enough to brag about breaching one of the top consoles ever made, which incidentally are made by a company not known for their samaritan goodwill when it comes to property.

He had a spanking coming, sadly though they'll probably charge this guy with $37,983 billion of your monopoly dollars worth of damages, and he has perhaps a fiver in the bank.

Oh, and the real h4xx0rz aren't dumb enough to step forward like that. This kid is being boned from both directions right now. Sony is using him as a public scapegoat in order to hang their lawsuit on an actual person; and the real people behind the crack have wisely ducked back underground.
I don't care who is right here in terms of ethics, this guy is just stupid. He has the right to protest Sony dragging him to court (even if he did provoke them..) but that video sure isn't helping his case. In fact I could see it losing him the case.

Exactly... I don't have a horse in the race, so I don't care about the issue. The kid is a jack ass because a jack ass is defined as the guy who acts like a jack ass... and he's acting like a jack ass. Maybe he's right. It's a shame he isn't mature enough to handle being right.
He is a massive twig but man, that guy sure knows how to paaaaartaaaaay
hahaha the twat wants us to pay his legal bill for him

1 guy vs corporation = corporation wins. Why is he smiling in his video? Sony can afford the best lawyers in the universe.
