Okay, I really need some help.

I'm running Vista currently, and I have UAC enabled. Whenever I install a GOG, it does its whole long process of loading the installer and blah blah blah.

However, after the game is installed, I always have to be sure to run it as admin. Otherwise, things don't save properly. Well, I forgot to set Postal 2 to run as admin and just realized this.

So now, Postal 2 lists a bunch of saves in-game that I can't find anywhere on my PC, when I launch it with admin, the game lists no saves at all. I tried to just re-install it, but the ghost saves are still there, including graphic/sound settings. Run it as admin, everything is the default.

I tried looking around in the registry. But didn't find anything. This applies to pretty much all GOGs that I have. How do I get rid of these ghost saves?

You're installing to the Program Files folder correct? That and using UAC is really screwing things up for you as you can't create new (save game) files in the Program Files folders, you see.

So reinstall the games to another directory (D:\games works for me) and ideally disable the pain in the arse Vista UAC crap while you're at it.

Also, I disabled UAC. To hell with that shit.

You're welcome, seems running the game as an admin can prompt Windows to move your save data to that location rather than the default . . . =)

Thanks, dude. I just had the exact same issue as the OP, I'm glad I found your post as it helped me locate the files. When I started the laptop today all the savegames I had created throughout the last weeks were gone.

However, I have no idea why this happened and when exactly. This suddenly happened to all GOG games at once and not immediately after running a game as administrator. The only game I had to run as an administrator was Raptor and I played it days ago - there*s been definitely multiple reboots since back then but the savegames were moved like today or yesterday. Anyways: Some of these "modern" Windows features do REALLY suck.

Edit: Additionally I just noticed that Raptor was among the few games where no files had been moved to the other folder. Really weird stuff.

That's how I do it on my own computer but occasionally I only have access to my GF's laptop and multiple partitions aren't really an option here. The hard drive is pretty small and dividing it would make it even harder to cope with it. Still, worthy advice for less professional/nerdy users.

Edit: Although: not completely true. I use the main one for most software (except games) as I'm using some tools (mostly for audio creation and programming) that like to cause problems when not installed in their default path. It's awful how often professional companies screw up this kind of stuff.
