Gonna smoke me some pork!

Hogs of War, a pork-flavored turn-based strategy classic with multiplayer for 4 and cheeky sense of humor is available on GOG.com 60% off. That's only $2.39 for the next 24 hours.

Arm your Hogs of War to the teeth with a choice of 40 different weapons including sniper rifles, bazookas, mines, jetpacks, cluster grenades, and tanks to fight for one of six different pig armies, each one based on a real nation from the First World War-era: Great Britain, Russia, Germany, Japan, France, or the USA. There's an explosive 25 level single player campaign for you to take on, and an addictive online multiplayer mode for up to four players. You can customize your squad as you promote your hogs from Grunt to Officer in one of four different classes - Heavy Weapons, Medic, Espionage, or Engineer - your swine will learn more skills and acquire the use of a wider range of weaponry. All this with a solid serving of cheeky sense of humor brought to life by the vocal talents of renowned British comedian Rik Mayall.

If you are open to some over-the-top humor in your turn-based strategy games take Hogs of War for a spin, for only $2.39 until Tuesday, December 2, at 10:59AM GMT.

BranjoHello: It doesn't make things any easier if that is what you're afraid of. ;)
Reminds me of Earth 2140 where the Windows port without AI ended up being even harder than the original DOS version (on some maps at least). I still prefer working AI. :p

BranjoHello: The game works perfectly (as someone who played this on both PS1 and PC back when it was released I know what I'm talking about) except for one thing that should be patched, the music audio is too loud comparing to SFX&speech so when those play at the same time you can miss a lot of witty piggy comments (and those never get old and are very important).
You should definitely give this gem a try and at this price it's a steal!
But does the AI move on the PC version? If not there is zero reason for me to pick this up (I still have the PSX version).

Niggles: Question. Hasnt this been on promo before?.

realkman666: When it came out.
As I picked the game as soon as it was released for one of my giveaways, I don't believe the information you provided is correct. AFAIK the first discount on this game was -50% during November sale.

The fact that AI doesn't move in PC version doesn't ruin the game at all. It's an artillery game, it's all about precision, so the AI is supposed to miss a lot in earlier mission and become more accurate with it's shots later (along with having more health). And if you have someone to play with in hot-seat, this is a perfect game for that.
If you have a working PSX version then there would be no reason to pick this game even if the AI was moving (and it NEVER did in any PC version of the game, so probably it NEVER will).
Bottom line is that the game is FUN and it's running perfectly on modern systems.

I don't entirely agree. The lack of AI movement makes the gameplay uneven and sometimes unchallenging, as it limits your own strategic options as well. The AI isn't exactly brilliant either, it will make stupid mistakes even in the later part of the game. That combined with the uneven terrain will often result in a serious handicap for the AI, despite of the health increases and weapon accuracy. It's just not as fun. Moreover, the game is not just based on artillery; it is a lot more versatile than that.

However, I agree that this doesn't mean that the game can't be challenging at all, since you will have to engage with the enemy either way (and get close enough for them to retaliate).
Might just get this out of respect to Rik Mayall himself. RIP Rik...
Shame this isn't supported on Win 8. Is it possible games like this, Populous 3, etc. would run fine in software rendering on Win 8?
Judging from the description and pics this game seems to have a strong Worms vibe. Is that way out of line?
So there is no patch to make the AI move for the PC version?
I really would buy this, but I read about the AI. That kills the game if true and I am a wuss, so I won't take the risk it is as bad as it sounds.

petitmal: I am probably a total noob, but what is a forum bump? ;-)

Treasure: Well... The announcement was hidden and hadn't shown up. It usually shows up when a forumite goes to the newspost from the front page and clicks on "be the first to comment!". By being the first to comment, the newspost then finally shows up on the forum. Because of this same thing, however, there might be announcements that show up way before they were supposed to(an example is the announcement for this year's GOG Xmas sale, that has shown up hours-or even days-before the actual sale because someone searched and found the thing and then posted there)
In other contexts it might mean pushing to the front page a thread that had nobody posting there for several hours by posting there, as this changes the "last post before..." column.
Ah...I see. Thanks for your answer!

Yes, that kind of fits.
It focuses a bit more on campaign than on multiplayer, compared to Worms. And it provides some sort of job and levelup system, I don't think such a thing exists in Worms.
I actually enjoyed the game. There are some speed run videos available on YouTube, they're fun to watch.

Yup, you have to conquer a continent that is formed like a pig. There are even two or three cutscenes (at least in the PSX version that I played, and I am quite sure that this version will not have *less* content).
Sorry if I made you spend your hard earned money now :D

And it gets better, Drop Dead Fred is doing the humor part. :)
Original game was fantastic... too bad the GOG version doesn't run on Windows 8. :(
Also sad to see the gutted AI... what's up with that anyway? Oh well....
