Chris Sawyer’s Locomotion, a multi-layered transportation infrastructure sim described by the developer as the spiritual successor to Transport Tycoon Deluxe, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $1.49 for the next 24 hours!

From a small entrepreneur with 2 bus stops and a rusty old bus, become the biggest tycoon of all time and connect the whole world with your spiderweb of transportation routes in Chris Sawyer’s Locomotion. Build railroads, trams, trucking lines, airplanes, ships and buses and manage your company from the early 1900’s to long past 2100 like an immortal economic entity would do. The game is played in a 2D isometric view and features beautifully-drawn historic and futuristic styles, with colorful and high resolution textures. Choose from over 40 pre-designed scenarios (including those based on real countries f.ex. USA, UK or Canada) and five difficulty settings to accommodate any playing style. This game is a special treat for vehicle enthusiasts: with lots of classic automobiles and trains, and Chris Sawyer’s insightful look on the future of transport past the year 2000!

Anyone who played with model train sets growing up will get a kick out of Chris Sawyer’s Locomotion, for only $1.49 today, on GOG.com! The Gem Promo 75% off discount lasts until Tuesday, July 15, at 9:59AM GMT.

*Sorry! It had to be done. We sincerely apologize to everyone who's got the song stuck in their head now.
I guess the main problem with Locomotion, at least for me, is lack of a sandbox mode, which was my favorite option to play TTD
Truly this game wasn't as captivating as either Transport Tycoon or Rollercoaster Tycoon.
I want the original Railroad Tycoon from Microprose!

It's free..You can download it from http://www.2kgames.com/railroads/downloads.html.
I'm getting murdered by the promo page here. It looks great, I grew up next to a trains station, and it doesn't seem to be impossible....but some of the reviews are shit. Anyone want to push me to buy this?
Interesting this is on sale after I emailed (again) the Transport Tycoon people who did the portable version. I again got this response: "While we only officially deal with the modern iOS/Android version of Transport Tycoon, we see if we can pass this request along to someone with more info on the status of the original game."

I guess OTTD makes the original TTD obsolete for most people, but some claim in the comments the original is better. Of course, there could be compatibility issues with the original, but 1600+ votes ain't bad.

It's playable. If you like building and landscaping Roller Coaster Tycoon, you won't hate it in Locomotion. It has other annoying flaws that I don't remember clearly anymore. Vehicles getting stuck on crowded routes, bus and truck networks turning into an unprofitable nightmare of constant breakdowns, airplanes circling endlessly above your largest airports...come to think of it, this could be the most realistic transit simulator ever.

LOL. Nice.

I enjoy the genre. Can't pass up the discount. Thanks GOG!
Aaagh, already own this game!

It's a lot of fun though. I would definitely recommend picking it up now while it is on sale.
Bought it. Maybe if enough people buy this, it will encourage the publisher to release TTD on GOG.

Have you played Transport Tycoon Deluxe? If not, then perhaps check that out first, and in particular OpenTTD. I really don't known what to make of Locomotion, being the big TTD fan that I am. Nevertheless, Transport Tycoon is where it started and it is still immensely playable, to put it mildly :)
Have been avoiding this game due to its middling-at-best reviews. But as a fan of trains, I fear this price is just too good. May as well cash in that RCT trilogy key I've been holding since the Summer Sale too.
A buck and a half and GOGers are asking themselves if it is worth the money?

You guys are insane. Look at yourself in the mirror. See what people in the real world would see. GOGers' insane relationships with money are farcial.

Personally I'm skipping the promo because I can not realistically make time for this game in the coming years with all the games that are already in the backlog.
While the general consensus seems to give the game an average score at best, I've had quite a good time with Locomotion. It'll never win any awards, but I always find it great for some relaxing gameplay.

It may not have a true sandbox mode, but certain scenarios do feature randomly generated landscapes. While those may be few, the scenario editor itself allows you to create your own easy or challenging conditions that you may desire, at the same time giving you the option to establish variable parameters for how the terrain/towns/industry should be set up by the game.

i'd say it boasts a fair amount of replayability.

Have fun with that. Its UI is horribly dated, and makes the game most awkward to play.
