Do you think it has gone too far?

With the recent announcement that skyrim will have gay marriages as well as quite a few other games having the 'option' it seems it's becoming more and more commonplace.

Now i don't hate gays or anything but i don't exactly want this spreading around to more and more games, for example in dragon age 2 it was very annoying as a male character to get hit on by Anders with no neutral option to say 'i'm not gay' (you get negative reputation with him for saying that sort of thing). As well as the fact that all the male characters were bisexual which isn't very realistic.

Personally as long as these sort of characters don't try and chat my character up and keep it to themselves in private i am ok with it, unless in skyrim if i saw a gay couple walking around then i would pull out my axe and kill them to cleanse the world :P

Isn't TES the series where lizards have boobs and everyone's mother shagged a dragon?

Seriously we're living in the 21st century, and sexual equality should by completely normal by now.

still try counting the games that allow gay interactions, and those that only allow straight interactions. Oh good to know you don't hate gay people or anything :P

I think there should be an option at the beginning of the game (i.e. character creation) so the players could choose if their character is heterosexual or not. And then the game could depend on their choice.

Games should stay games. We have enough politics everywhere else.

That's why you should play as a female. Win/Win no matter who hits on you :D

I don't see the issue there. People generally don't like it when you reject their advances and gays are no different. The negative rep for spurning their advances is perfectly logical.

Now, being gay is completely accepted by society, but the fantasy games are set in a world, where the human parts of the world are based on the medieval times, and it wasn't accepted then. So yeah, it's gone too far.

EDIT: In games with a 21th century or later setting, I've got no problem with it, though.

I don't think Ive ever had a problem bar New Vegas. It seemed in New Vegas that the majority of people whose sexual orientation could be determined were gay or bi and no-one cared which while not really a problem seemed a little like obsidian trying to show they were open minded and came across as a little moralizing. They should have thrown some bigots in there that were against gays and it would have felt more real and would have been interesting.

Didn't know that in DA2 (played with a female character) Anders swinged in that way but now that I think of it.. Well, Fenris always seemed gay.
So, I pretty much ended up with Merrill, so that's also gay. I mean they were lezzing out. That's fine but male and male.. Eh.. Why not but I better have a choice. =)
Although.. If it's a good game, doesn't matter how many gays there are.
If Skyrim has gay marriages, that really doesn't affect me. It can be a good thing. =)

Try, just for giggle's sake, to tell a woman who's hitting on you that you're not interested. I'm pretty sure that'll give you "negative reputation". In real life, that is. I mean, we're talking about realistic stuff, right? If you don't get hit on, you can try it the other way around. Try to hit on someone, with serious intent, and when they dismiss you: do you now consider the situation/person neutrally or positively? Or maybe... negatively?

Did your concerns about Dragon Age 2's realism kick in before or after you read the word "dragon" in its title?

Could you point me to a history book that shows all the goblins and dragons, impossible architecture, magic, etc. etc. in the medieval times? I was always taught that those things didn't actually exist. I mean, if people need to disapprove homosexuality, it must be a really rigid medieval setting.

That would be excellent IF it modified your dialogue when you were contronted with the "hit on by someone you don't want" situation rather than it being used as a way to omit the situation entirely

Oh come on, the cultural tendencies vary a lot all over the world. Just because gay marriage may be quite ok to you people in Italy, you can't tell the people in Sweden (like ChickenHero) that they should approve gay marria... wait, hold on...


Sometimes I see some ladies complaining in magazines or the net why do men try to hit on them when they go to restaurant, as if the ladies are seeking company just because they came to a restaurant. "Why can't men just leave us alone?".

I wonder if the same applies if a hetero man goes to a gay bar, and raises a tantrum if any men try to hit on him? No I am not going to test it.

Naturally if one says "no thanks", that should be enough hint to leave her/him alone. Until another candidate tries the same, etc. Some people seem to be genuinely surprised that people are trying to get acquainted with strangers in restaurants.
