I just wanted to recommend it. An excellent platformer with unique, sandbox guns where you solve puzzles. There's a decent hint system that let's you buy the confirmation if you actually can solve a puzzle and if you pay even more, the solution.

Well worth the money!

NOTE: You DON'T buy solution for real money!

When you say buy solutions... do you mean with real $$$?

Haha, no, sorry. In-game currency, some kind of blue balls but they're limited so you have to save them to puzzles you can't figure out yourself. I've just reached a situation where I had two puzzles that were unbelievably annoying, they required both timing and strategy and I suck the at former.

I was thinking about picking it up. It's not too much of a Portal clone is it? That's my only fear with games like this.

Also, how is Adventures of Shuggy? I heard good things, but didn't pick it up when it was 75% off for some reason.

Sounds like Scribblenauts.

It's very close to a 2D version of Portal but after a while it becomes more about timing than strategy altough I noticed even the harder puzzles have multiple solutions and the one the hint gives you is not the easiest.

I checked out both games you mentioned and it's neither like them, perhaps closer to Adventures of Shuggy because of its platforming but the enemies you meet are usually slow and not that hard, it's about strategy and timing, basically no combat.

Oh, no I meant that the hint system sounded a lot like the one Scribblenauts employs.

And I only asked how Adventures of Shuggy was because it was made by the same developer.

I probably will pick Gateways up though, if only because I'm curious.
Here's a trailer.

If you want more details here it is:

The game gives you four guns (I think, I haven't finished it):

1st: Gateway Gun. It's like Portal Gun, right & left click and you enter one and pops up in the other.
2nd: Resizing Gateway Gun. If you enter one you will become smaller and the other bigger.
3rd: Time Travel Gun. You shoot out one portal, then a timer starts that records your doing then when you are finished or when the bar is almost close you use the other portal where you will enter and pop out from the first. Now you will se yourself do what you "recorded" making it look like actual time travel. If you touch your past self a time paradox occur and you will have to start over. This gun is a lot of fun but also makes the game a lot harder.
4th: Rotation Gatway Gun. When you put this in the right order (e.g one on the floor and one on a right wall or left you will change gravity direction (there's default, left, right and reverse).

After the 4th gun you will also acquire an item that makes you able to combine, before you can only use one at the time but the time travel gun still requires you to use your other guns first. Again, after this, the game becomes harder again.

I'm not sure what you meant that were afraid it was going to be a Portal clone, if you're then this game won't probably be enjoyable. I find it more challenging than Portal but the platformer/2D style also makes it more retro, I like that too.

Grabbed in on Desura but can't play it.

I stumble upon two problems with my old PC when it comes to games designed with XNA.

Either the developer didn't opt to recognize SSE

or

Didn't toggle the 'Reach' switch in XNA.

In the instance of Gateways it's the 'Reach' switch, which wouldn't affect the quality of the game in anyway (or at least shouldn't) and has tripped up even some people with higher end PCs.

Google up 'No Supported Graphics Card XNA HD Error' and you'll see what I'm talking about.
That was unfortunate. You have checked you have latest version of XNA? I remember Terraria not working without it. Also, check admin rights when you try to start the game, might help.
