same here. i also got this suspicious email today. what the hell is this?
You've probably been automatically signed up for some beta.
Since this happened today maybe it's related to the new Duke Nukem game they are working on and were going to announce today. Not sure that's still happening since gearbox is taking legal action, but maybe some random people that have RotT will get a beta invite and it is linked with this? Probably just coincidence though...
Did the email also include your real name? Because mine did and I have no idea how they could've received that information.

yeah it did...
I got this this morning too. No way to access whatever account they made for me on the site. I don't see anything other than an ad for a CS tournament. Somebody sold my info and it's pissing me off...
I received the mail as well with my real name in it. I do also have the game RotT. I already used the contact form on the direct website to inform them about this. And it maybe best if the rest will do so as well.
This spam for gaminggrid IS linked to RotT.
I can't post a link, but just look on the Steam forums for RotT, post at the top details what happened, one of the Devs explained it.

I'm sorry, I am not finding such a thread. Can you post the thread ID number? It should be in the page's URL, such as : ...showthread.php?t=XXXXXXX
I got it too, and I have RoTT 2013 on Steam. Hmm.
Gaming Grids is a tournament gaming system that Apogee is considering for ROTT in the future. It is not required or necessary and you can feel free to delete the emails from them. It appears that the integration of the Gaming Grids system with the game may have caused everyone who owns the product and registered for the ROTT leader boards to be emailed by accident.

No worries, your information isn't being shared with anyone, and Gaming Grids has apologized to Apogee since this was discovered. We're sorry for any concerns and Apogee has been assured by Gaming Grids that the triggers that generated these boilerplate emails have been disabled.

Thanks for the explanation.

Do I understand correctly that a Gaming Grid account is still being auto-created without the involvement of the person for whom the account is for, but that now the emails announcing that won't be going out?

No accounts will be created without the user creating one.
