JudasIscariot: First person shooters seem like they might help but I am no expert on this topic.

If not those, then perhaps a game like Flow or something similar can ease the nerves.

RoseLegion: I'm also no expert but I do live with a lovely lady who suffers from similar difficulties.
She tends to favor somewhat fast paced story driven games often with an FPS UI so JudasIscariot may be on to something there.
Yes he is!
you might want to consider picking up a nintendo handheld or console , most of the games there are relaxing and easy
harvest moon
animal crossing
pokemon
etc
Wow.. A lot of Good Old Gamers have Anxiety... Well I do too and over 10 years and counting.. I'll just relate this to everyone on here since I feel I have gone through it all meaning chronic anxiety and panic attacks.

You already know this but if you drink alcohol and smoke then there's 80% of the problem there.. The other 20% would be lack of sleep.. High Blood Pressure and Caffeine will trigger it all day everyday..

Get checked by a doc for blood pressure- get meds if it's high.. get prescribed sleeping pills if you don't sleep like me..Lay off the high amounts of Sodium and eat healthier.. Definitely do not drink alcohol on a daily basis and don't smoke.
I have done all the above except I still smoke and always will.. That's where the Valiuum comes in. get some from a shrink.. and IMHO SSRI's do not work but thats just me.. tried 3 different kinds for 6 months of hell..

Yup FPS games will stop anxiety or at least start to slow it down.. Good Luck

Sadly mate, that doesn't work for all cases as there are many reasons to have anxiety / anxiety related disorders, though I've no doubt it will work for some.

Well, I'm no stranger to anxiety myself and games for me are a way to escape.

So, to me a game I would play when I get really anxious, would be a game in which I can really feel safe. That could be a game I used to play when I was younger (to revisit a time when I was more carefree) or games that are 'kind', maybe childish even. FPS games would only make me more jumpy. The shocky images in front of me, being on edge and, when playing online, the competition with others can only add to the nervousness.

I want to play a game that's friendly and mellow, like Viva Pinata on Xbox 360 or point and click games like Monkey Island, Broken Sword or Gabriel Knight. I have never really played it, but I think Animal Crossing is also soothing and friendly. I know this is GOG, but I think that Nintendo has a good catalogue of colorful games that could be played as a 'safe zone'.

Oh, and I have noticed that chemical stimulants really fire up the anxiety. That goes for: cafeine, sugar, Ritalin, chocolate (has some of the same ingredients as coffee). Also, gatting not enough sleep can even make me wake up completely nervous and anxious. I know it's a vicious circle (can't sleep because of anxiety and anxious because due to lack of sleep), but try to get that sorted out first (medication?). Sounds like an old wive's tale, but sleep is soooo important to battle anxiety.

You are correct.. it won't work for everyone but it is a good start I believe.... There are so many causes for anxiety, depression, panic attacks etc etc.. and nobody (at least I think) wants to rely on medication for the rest of their life..

I just know I have dealt with it for a long time and has gotten better with the tips I listed above but is also not totally gone either.. I just hate it when I see a doc about this stuff all they want to do is throw an assortment of medications at you and if that doesn't work then they mix up another pill cocktail..

I realize it's hard to get into routine with exercise and eating better and all that stuff but if your body feels better.. so will your mind.. and then of course benzo's don't hurt either.. Im just turned 35 and have been dealing with it all since I was 23 and realistically don't think I will ever be normal.. Funny how it just starts one day out of nowhere.

Yeah... sleep, sleep, sleep.. it's really one of the most important things.. Also I forgot to mention I believe a lot of this is also caused by low self esteem also.. If your not in a relationship, try to find one and have lots and lots of sex..lol it will make all the difference in the world.. Hang in there people.. I'm living proof whatever method or route you go it will eventually get better

This I can agree with 100% - often its the cause of further problems for many.
