As a fan of Deus Ex, when I had the chance to be in Hong Kong I rushed to find Tonnochi road and see how it compared to the one depicted on the game. Recently, I also found this, to discover I wasn't the only one crazy enough to do such a trip. And I was wondering, have you ever done a trip to look at some gaming location? And how was the experience?

Myself, I've done it a few times. The aforementioned Hong Kong DX tour was quite disappointing, as the real Hong Kong doesn't have any canals. That made me a sad panda. But on my visit to Prague, I did find the exact alley that brought you to the old monastery which was the 2nd dungeon in Vampire: the masquerade Redemption. It was identical, I was with a friend at the time and we were both really excited about it. As a side note, we also found Grog being sold there, which may be normal for the people from that area but was very surprising for us. The recipee was slightly different from the one used in Melée island(tm), though.

Finally, not gaming related, but when I went to Düsseldorf I checked out every single hospital in town to see if I could find Dr. Tenma's (from the manga Monster).

Friend o' mine visited San Gimignano in Italy (Assassin's Creed II).

I recognised it from photos of him with the town in the background, there was even a tiny statue of a person atop one of the rooves; but it didn't occur to him at the time, apparently.

It was sort of reverse for me. I visited Hong Kong a lot in the past, and when I played Sleeping Dogs, I was thinking: "Wow, this...is not the Hong Kong I remember." Then again, I didn't visit many of the places that were presented in Sleeping Dogs anyways.

Interesting, I'll have to check that out when I'm in Prague. I haven't yet decided what part of the Czech Republic I'm going to live in, but at some point I'm going to have to check out Prague.

Also, the whole sad panda thing is silly. As anybody who has ever seen pandas know, pandas are far too lazy to ever be sad.

they're sad if you take their sleep-time away.

On topic: I'm going to Venice next year, and will spend some time looking around for assassin's creed stuff.

I grew up in St. Louis Missouri, which for those of you who don't know is actually the setting of all of the Fallout games. They just couldn't actually use the name 'St. Louis' for legal reasons. On top of that, they had to make the conditions in the game a little less severe than in the real city as critics claimed otherwise the game would be too unrealistic and players would never believe a city could look that bad even after the apocolypse.

Had to visit Kowloon while in Hong Kong because of the first mission in Hitman 1. Though it was not like this at all.

I have always wanted to visit Rennes-le-Château from Gabriel Knight 3 but for the moment haven't had the opportunity. I supose it must be much more crowded after the Da Vinci Code book.

Kind of a silly note. In Midtown Madness while they don't have the look down exactly, you can actually use the map of San Francisco as a half way servicable street map if you are ever in San Francisco. I don't know about the London part as I've never been to London.

I was recently in New York, first time since I was a kid. I look forward to seeing New York in games now and looking for landmarks, evaluating the feel.

I've always wanted to visit the town of Eger in Hungary (practically my neighbourhood), which was extensively showcased in a rather obscure but excellent Hungarian adventure game called "Yoomurjak's Ring".

Unfortunately I won't be able to help you with that, it was 7 or so years ago, but finding it is part of the fun.

Also, would a sad T-Rex be a better choice?
