It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

michaelleung: I tried to play Psychonauts for free a while back, and I installed the Gametap plugin for Firefox, thinking "It'll probably work now, after a few months of tweaking," but NO. It never even loaded the game, no matter how long I waited. Thanks a lot Gametap, you've alienated a potential customer.

I shall test anon.
American Mcgee's Grimm looks interesting.

It's kind of "meh". Gets real old after a while.

Probably why it's on Gametap only.

They said that about Bad Day LA... then when it actually came out...
Can anyone explain how the new gametap works. I used to use the old one a long time back.
It's now a firefox plugin? Does that have any downside? Eg: the instantaction plugin was like 200mb and then filled up my HDD with loads of temp files.
Does the plugin just download the game, or do i need FF open to launch/play every game?
Any issues to be aware of before giving it a spin?
How about regional restrictions?

American McGee's games just haven't been that great. I am sort of interested in the second Alice game, but I'm also worried it will be as bad as the rest of his games (besides Doom, of course).

First Alice was trippy... in a good way. It was pretty good, but I'm not sure why he moved to Shanghai (or even Asia) in the first place. Running away from failure?

Basically, the browser plugin has you clicking what game you want to play through a browser, it downloading through the browser (but not as a normal download, it comes up with a download screen showing how far the download is). You click play from your browser, and it plays. You can create a desktop shortcut, but that leads to the specific part of the website where you can launch the game.
If you're 64-bit, for now the majority of games won't work for you, but they are beginning to add two either from their back catalog or new titles every week for 64-bit. All new titles will be encoded for 64-bit support right when they come out. All games in the Classic Pack have 64-bit support.

I believe he did it because it was cheaper. I remember reading that on some website. Also, he likes the area.

Anyone can play the free games but I'm not sure if you can sign up for the premium content outside of the US. You used to be able to but you got a limited number of games.

Ah, yes. I forgot you were U.K. Metaboli is what you're probably looking for, then.

Well whoopdee, it fails again, "Error 153". So I check the self-help site, says it's a Vista issue, and to manually kill gametapwebplayer.exe and edit the compat option to "Windows XP SP2".
Ooohhhhkaaay, seems like it's time to be like, supporting post-XP OS's now. But whatever, I try it.
And the game fails AGAIN, this time with a different error that is not listed in the self-help section. So sorry Gametap, no way in heck I'm paying a monthly subscription for this kind of crap.
Thanks. I'm on 32 bit vista, so the 64 bit thing isn't an issue for me. I'll check it out at some point in the future, been meaning to try Project Eden for years.
I'm actually in Japan.... but i'm always wary of selecting "japan" as a location when signing up to sites... it tends to mean that everything is in japanese, and that using my uk credit card causes lots of hassle. ;-)

Ya, after being a paying member for two years, I quit Gametap because of all of the various stupid issues. The games take a long time to dowbnload and you usually can't get them to start the first time you click the play button. And the play button doesn't make a noise or give any indication when it is clicked, so you have no idea if it worked or not. Most of the time you need to click more than once. And I too had problems with some games in Vista. Even though Gametap says that everything works in Vista.
I may revisist them down the road, but this transition to the new player has been terrible. They really used up a lot of the good will they had with a large group of their customers by charging us to be their beta testers. I wonder if their paying customer base is smaller now than it was a year ago?
