Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you used the service Gametap, and if you did, if you would recommend using it. It looks kind of interesting, but it also looks somewhat clunky, but I have seen that they have games there for free that I'd like to play such as Bloodrayne and Commandos 3. And also, is the monthly subscription worth it?

They have bummed me out pretty badly with the lack of 64-bit support as 2/3 of the computers I use have 64-bit Vista.
As far as their game selection, it's pretty darn good. All the Metal Slugs, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, two or three Silent Hill games I believe, a lot of Tomb Raider, all the Prince of Persia games, a TON of Tom Clancy games, and my personal favorite, The Typing of the Dead.

The emulators leave a lot to be desired. The gameplay isn't very smooth. And, GameTap adds to the normal requirements of the game.

Basically as long as you have a beefy, 32-bit system, Gametap should be pretty cool.

I've been using it for a while now and I'm fine with it. I don't live in the US, but even so I don't think the subscription would be worth it for me. But otherwise you're simply getting several very good games for free. The games are directly included in the GameTap software, so you can in no way change anything about them, like adding mods or copying your savegames. So if you really like one of the free games of it I would still recommend buying them seperately. Like the others mentioned there may be more issues. But hey, it's all free, so just try it out :)

I don't use gametap, but I don't recommend it.

I've been a subscriber for over a year now and I really enjoy it. Since I pay by the year, I'm only paying $5 a month for the service. It does suck about the crappy 64 bit support though. It's not for everyone because of the non-ownership of games, but I do reccomend it to people who love to play all sorts of different games and really don't have the money or time to find all of these games.

GameTap is a good service if you wanna try out a game you've never played. I have 70+ games downloaded that I still need to play.

the free service isn't at all bad. (it gave me a chance to play the awesome Psychonauts!!).
there can be a few technical issues, and if you are outside the US it can be tricky to use it. But overall its not bad.
Try out the free version for a while (play psychonauts NOW if you haven't). I think that between GOG, Steam and Gametap you have a pretty awesome combination.

Yeah, I ended up getting it the other day and trying yesterday's Grimm, I was always curious about those. The fact that Psychonauts is awesome, although I do already own it. And I am excited to try out Rogue Trooper now.

Gametap's great for the occasional gamer but for hardcore gamers such as myself it's a huge disappointment. The files you download are placed in a high security folder that's basically inaccessible meaning that hacking the game files, manipulating saved game files and personal modding is impossible.

Rogue Trooper is a good game. I played it on GT too...
