Rollie: Advent Rising. Full of technical flaws, but I thought the whole experience came together well. it's a shame the story will never be finished.
Also, Armed and Dangerous. Shark cannon, anyone?

Oh, yeah -- I was shocked at how much I liked my PC version of Advent Rising, given how most responded to it.

Palehorse: Dark Messiah of M&M: This was also universally given average review scores after some good hype, but that didn't stop me from having a great time stealthing around and finding ways to kill guys using the environment.

I agree. I thought that the game was really well done. It provided a new depth to medieval combat that I never really thought about, and gave endless solutions to scenarios.
And Armed and Dangerous as well. I remember that one weapon that's like a drill, you put it into the ground, and it flips the world upside down, sending your enemies falling to their deaths? I loved the wacky weapons in that game.

I loved the might & magic series even though PC Zone gave it terrible reviews (think number 8 got 9%) That didnt stop me playing and enjoying the games.

I was also once told that Fallout 2 and Deus Ex sucked but those were because the guy that played them didn't get past the beginnings, which were admittedly crap.

Don't remember the beginning of Deus Ex being crap... wasn't it the Liberty Statue level? I liked that.

I was the same with Deus ex, and I can give you the reason ( which might be why your friend hated it)
The statue of liberty level SUCKS if you dident have a certain type of video card. It looked so different on my friends older computer.
It is slow as well like laggy, I put this down to the machine having to render the whole of newyork bay without any video card to help.
Come to think of it, it also happend with Metal gear solid. On his computer it looked fantastic with clean clear visusals as if a dirrerent graphix engine was being used, while on my computer it just looked like the ps .
possibley glide related..or 3DFX ( which in case you are too old to remember was a GRAPHIC ACCELLARATOR..not a video card...so you had both your video card..and a secondary card like a voodoo such n such to make pretty 3d effects)

Thread necromancy is frowned upon by many. Mostly because many old threads are about old issues that don't matter too much anymore or have been discussed to death. Furthermore, even if there is interest, many folks that posted previous in the thread are gone from the forum. This may make it difficult to continue certain threads that were discussing past relevant issues.

I honestly don't think any of those objections actually apply to this thread, so I am not, personally, bothered by its resurrection. I, actually, found it an interesting read. However, you asked 'why', so I tried to answer. :)

Well, now people who joined the forum post-2008 can put in their two cents, so no harm done.

I agree with most of the criticisms people leveled against Dragon Age 2, but I still enjoyed it a lot; if I like the dialogue and characters, I'll put up with a lot from a game.

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

wasnt really warned againt it, but it is THE lowest scoring game i have seen on meta-critic that is NOT a move tie-in (well, it was a few years back)

me and three friends LOVED this game and played it to death on the xbox (the xbox version was the lowest rated of all the versions)

Hey, so I'm not the only one. Well, "love" might be a strong word in my case, but I did like the game a lot.

The most recent Alone in the Dark game stands out the most to me. I read about how it wasn't that great, how it had game-breaking bugs, how it was, according to some, a blight upon humanity. But I absolutely love the game. I only ran across one bug that could potentially be "game-breaking," but even that one I was able to get past without using the skip ahead feature.

Space Siege is also another one. Many people think it's terrible and I took that into consideration before I bought it. But it was cheap and I wanted to play it. So I did. And it wasn't quite as bad as most people said it was. It was actually fun. Like with Too Human, I can't say I absolutely loved the game, but I did like it.

I have that AITD game and love it too, I have the 360 CE version and the PS3 "enhanced" version), It got alot of hate because of the car chases I think, but IMO a great game.
