There are just some games you try to play, try to get into and try to enjoy. You do this maybe because the game is well acclaimed or because your friends really like it.
But no matter how hard you try, you just end up hating the game more. Post such games here.
I'll start off by listing one game that I tried several times to get into:
Silent Hill.
Oh god, that game was horrible. I tried Silent Hill 2. And the camera, the damn camera, just pissed me off. Everytime I moved forward in some hallway, the camera focused on my character's face instead of what's ahead of me and I get killed easily because I can't see the %*)(@#($)@(#)$ monster.
I tried Silent Hill 3 but it was still horrible. People have told me that the camera is that way on purpose and it adds to the effect. But I tried. I ended up hating the game more and the sequel that is about to come out doesn't entice me at all. Maybe I'll try the demo if they have one.
Another game that I almost gave up was Knights of the Old Republic (yes, I was crazy).
<POTENTIAL-SPOILER-ALERT>
I first tried it on the xbox and when I started on Taris, I got bored very quickly. The controls weren't great and I wasn't a Jedi and I was going through hoops rescuing Bastila and the whole premise wasn't good.
When it came out for PC and all my friends were hooked on it, I decided to get the game for PC and try it. I stuck through the first part. Once Taris blew up (thank you Darth Malak), the game got really awesome and I couldn't put it down.
I was exploring everything, going through every mission, customizing my lightsaber, collecting crystals and generally tore the sith a new one. Oh that was an awesome game with an incredibly boring start.

How about the rest of you? Any game that you tried but could never get into it?
Knight of the old Republic II. I don't know why. The beggining was just ... boring :D
GTA: SA, don't get me wrong, it's a great game for the most, problem is, I could never manage to fly any aircraft in anything other than a perfectly straight line. I don't know if anyone else found it as hard as I did, but it completely ruined the story for me.

yeah. but the game is amazing. wait for restoration project and replay the game
I couldn't play Final Fantasy 7. I tried. I really did.
Couldn't stand the game.
and after i got attacked third time by the same kind of monsters on a bridge 4 meter long...
I just gave up.
@rowan.
Really? I loved flying with the fighter. I once managed to fly into the tunnel (but crushed half way through)
practice makes expert.

I tried for hours on end, I even forked out and got a nice joystick to see if that'd help, oh well, I guess I suck.
I didn't enjoy GTA: SA much, either. Everyone says it's a great game... I guess it was just too much for me (can't really explain what I mean by this, since I don't know it myself :D ). At some point, I just found this game boring... And it's not because I don't like GTAs, I love first one and Vice City

Oh Vice City is my favorite, and I didn't like SA that much, but when you are saying that you liked the first one, are you talking about GTA 3?
BTW great avatar :P

sirfalas: I first tried [KOTOR] on the xbox and when I started on Taris, I got bored very quickly. The controls weren't great and I wasn't a Jedi and I was going through hoops rescuing Bastila and the whole premise wasn't good.

Oh god, KOTOR, the best game with the worst first planet ever. I even had an argument with the Star Wars-obsessed friend who got me into KOTOR, him refusing to remember how atrocious Taris was to play through. Just undercities under undercities, sewers after sewers of dull sidequests. So I got him round a couple of months back and suggested he start playing KOTOR again. He gave up after the fifth or sixth hour of wandering aimlessly round Taris' underbelly.
It's a real shame; I want to go back through rp-ing a darkside character, but I'm not sure if I can tolerate Taris enough to have fun.

I like this thread - it gives me a change to show again how old I am ;) No really, good thread :)
This one takes us about 25 years back in time. The year was 1985 and it was my eight birthday. My father bought me this C64 game, Silicon Dreams: Snowball and I immediatly started to play it... Well almost immediatly. It took 20 minutes to load :D (3 cassetes). It felt easy. Just go west, north, east or west. Write "get all" randomly and wait the screen to be redrawn after every movement. Yes. Great. That was all I could do, because of the lack of my english... :D I could not read what it tried to say to me nor write what I want to do.
Second big "no. JUst can't do it..." was Ultima Underworld series.. I just could not get it. What was the point? Random tunnels with random stuff in it? How boring is that? :D (NO offense. ;))
Nowadays I refuse to play any game that needs manual just to start your game (i.e. Gunship 2000... ) or some other simulation game with just too many buttons to remember. :D

GTA 1 was in my mind in that moment. Good old GTA1...
Oh, you have a great avatar too, insect :D
Yes... BOTH KOTORs had boring start :D They are exact opposite of Mass Effect :D
-Command and Conquer, C&C: Red Alert, Homeworld and most of the "One of the Greatest RTSes since x" since. I want to like the genre, I really do, but some of its basic conceits just drive me crazy (mostly that I'm simultaneously expected to micromanage things like individual targetting and movement, but at the same time I have very little control over other aspects of their behaviour, like the inability to order a bunch of tanks to dig out scrapes and go hull-down, and similar problems with the space-based RTSes). Every once in awhile when there's a demo out or a cheapo release I'll go back and try to pick up another RTS, but with no luck so far.
-Many, many console games.
I have to agree with lukaszthegreat, FF7 was horrible. The show stopper for me was how long spells lasted, with no way to stop it. One spell lasted over a minute! No thank you! I haven't touched a FF game since then.
World of Warcraft Yes I know I'm gonna get in trouble for saying that, but its just too cartoony and boring.
Age of Conan, I didn't even make it out of the starting city. Just the same old grinding.
Halo 2 Sorry, another 'great one', but I just found it boring.
Bioshock, I played for a bit, but kept putting it down for something else, picking it up again, playing for an hour, then putting it down again.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance, just pure crap.
I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones off the top of my head.
I tried to play Perfect Dark 0, why? because despite the mixed reviews on Gamefaqs, as a fan of the first one and Goldeneye, I figured it was at least worth a shot.
I should have left well enough alone.
KOTOR is another one, simply got bored with it.
I'm still trying to get thru Bionic Commando re-armed.
I got stuck on Final Fantasy X-2 because I ended up in a place where it took EVERYTHING I HAD to destroy an enemy in a random encounter and I couldn't leave that area.
I quit playing Final Fantasy XI because I hate other people.
I quit playing World of Warcraft because it wasn't as pretty as FFXI.
I quit playin your mom when I found out she had a kid.
- GTA: San Andreas: I couldn't get into it
- Silent Hill: the gameplay is horrible and don't even scare me...
- Silverfall: it has issues with NOD32 so I could not even install it. LOL
Fallout 2.
Bought it from here just over a week ago in the hope that maybe its an RPG that I could play.
Nope, can't stand it. Pacing is far too slow, very annoying camera angle which hides enemies behind walls and I hate the combat and the total hit and miss of it all.
I'm better off sticking to the RPG-lite game known as Diablo 2.
