Syndicate Wars: I played the original Syndicate on my Amiga 1200 endlessly. I was really excited the day I found the 'sequel' while browsing my local gaming shop, trying to imagine how Bullfrog could have improved upon the original. I soon discovered that perhaps they should have done the same.
Lionheart: I don't hate this game at all, but it frustrates me no end just how great this game could have been if the developers had extended the content beyond Barcelona and the initial 5 hours. Definitely my most disappointing game I have bought, if only for failed potential.

DarthKaal: Small levels? Which ones?

Well, the one I remember most is Nar Shadar (or however you spell that).
The JK Nar Shadaloo was a vertigo inducing, huge-feeling grimy maze of a city.
The JO Nar ShoppingMall was some kind of tiny, neon-plastered copy of Fifth Element.
I wouldn't be surprised if "physically" the JO levels were bigger... but the JK designers did a great job of making the levels seem huge and open. Like when you spend 2-3 levels working your way towards a huge spire, then around it's base, then climbing up it's inside and outside and trying not to fall off. It felt huge and open.
JO just has lots of linear metal corridors.

DarthKaal: Pretty much same powers than in JK.

But with a few missing (throwing crates, etc.) , and with several so overpowered that you never felt even the slightest threat from the enemies.
avatar
DarthKaal: And lightsaber combat was really really well done, far better than in JK. A lot of cool move, different combat styles, etc...

But that was the ONLY good thing about the game.
avatar
DarthKaal: Sorry but I fail to see what's missing in JO.

Good story. Good characters. Good cutscenes. Good level design. Good environmental puzzles. Good weapons (other than the lightsaber). Good bad guy. Good ending. Light/dark choice. NPCs. Good feeling.

DarthKaal: Of course, no Star Wars game could beat feelings we had while playing Dark Forces and the original Jedi Knight. But that doesn't mean than Jedi Outcast can't be good.

It's not terrible. It's just totally average. It's the archetypal 5/10 game.
Ok... i've kind of talked myself into hating it now.
Jedi Academy wasn't great either, but at least I didn't have high expectations by that point, I occasionally used a few of the weapons, and the characters were some dumb kids rather than messing up the characters id liked from previous games.

I never played past the first level of syndicate wars, because I could never work out what the big mass of pixels on the screen was supposed to represent... so i can't say if i'd have loved it or hated it. Loved the original syndicate though.

I quite liked Syndicate Wars. I was really happy when my CPU was finally powerful enough to run SW in DOSBox in high resolution. Maybe it's because, at the time, my own 486 SX wasn't powerful enough to run the demo at a reasonable speed and I tend to associate those games with a sense of longing if you know what I mean. The games that I never could properly play always seemed so tempting.
Deus Ex. After loving The Invisable War, and hearing so much about how DE was one of the most innovative and unduplicated games ever, I was SUPER dissapointed.
Thank god for the industry that it remains unduplicated.
Brutal Legend.
Dont get me wrong, it might be the best idea for a game ever! It was even fun to play! But when i got really into the game, began to care for the characters-- IT ENDS!!!
You are able to beat this in 2 hours if you only play the main story!
why Tim? Whyyyyyyyyyy!

Didn't you post this exact same post a while back in another thread? ;-)
Personally, i haven't fully enjoyed an FPS since Deus Ex. After playing it, everything else just felt too limited and restricted.
I did rather enjoy Invisible War though, except it was rather non-epic in scope.

:O
The internet never ceases to amaze me! I was completely the same mind, if you reversed the games. Don't think I've ever been so disappointed with a sequel. Each to their own, mind!! =P

What would any other thread have to do with anything? The thread asked for what games people hated, and I outlined the game I hate more than any other.
Halo 3 - I get motion sickness from many FPS games. This is one of them. Forge mode is the most amazing thing I've ever seen on Xbox 360, though. Forge isn't Halo 3. Forge is a special game where I fly around and try to drop tanks on people.
Modern Warfare 2 - Again, motion sickness. Also, it looks really, really dumbed down from the first one. More like a reskinned toned down Quake with uninspired level design than a tactical shooter.
Guitar Hero 1-4 - Either they don't have drum support or the note mapping is horrible.
Resident Evil * - Only played 4, and seen 5 but I suspect I hate all the others anyway. Awful movement system and limited view to make things scarier? Not scary. Frustrating.
Devil May Cry - It's a game about making combos in a hack n' slash. Lovely.
Street Fighter 4 - The embodiment of everything that frustrates me about traditional arcade fighting games. Thank goodness for Super Smash Bros.

I am SO going back to that game.

Heh - the crazy thing is that most Deus Ex fans are on the exact opposite front as you on this one (myself included). Maybe its because we played Deus Ex 1 before IW, IW kinda brought the game 'down' in my eyes. I see it as a side effect of the multi platform programming though (too many games suffer from this malady, whether it being the console version being to PC-ified or the PC version being too Console-ified).
I'm getting a bit tired of the hysterics surrounding the annual reskinning of the genric warshooter 5 or whatever its called ;)
All current gen games. (with a few exceptions like Risen...)

How comes? Well, besides DRM and DLC madness... There were quite a few good games released lately.

i agree the current gen seems to be lacking any really good games other than ME and the orange box.
