ChrisSD: Hi all of you,

What games do you play when you're tired and just want to mindlessly waste some time? Any recommendations?

EDIT: I didn't mean to mark this as a question but I did so... free rep for somebody! :P

Race the Sun works for me.

1) There are no competitors to get annoyed at

2) Once you got max achievement, the game doesn't really keep permanent score of anything in single player so there is zero pressure to beat your previous performances

3) You know that you will eventually crash so it's not that big a deal when you do. There is no win or lose. Just trying to get as far as possible before crashing.

4) The controls and gameplay are incredibly simple (really, you use like 3 keys... left, right and jump).

Of course, if games that require responsiveness in any way (basically, anything that isn't turn-based) stress you, it may still not be the game for you when you are tired, but otherwise, it's very undemanding on the mind.

Licurg: Majesty . It's really relaxing, but without feeling like a casual game .

donsanderson: Seems to be exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
Simple, but not totally 'dumbed down'.
Downloading now. :)
Thanks.
It's only as simple as you want it to be . The campaign map has a lot of variation in levels, and the custom games allow for huge customization, including what buildings you start with, what monsters are on the map, monsters that come from outside of the map, etc.

Played with it for about an hour last night and am very pleased.
Voice acting is top notch and visuals are very good.
As you said, VERY customizable.
$4.99 DRM free for the Gold Edition at Amazon, couldn't be happier.
Thanx again.

Happy to help :) Just steer clear from the expansion levels, which were done by another company and have a HUGE difficulty curve, compared to the ones in the original. THOSE aren't relaxing at all .
Defender's Quest, especially in replay-section-to-grind-xp mode.
Pac-Man. ( *< • • •
This is a good topic. Maybe we can get a GOGmix going? :D

My vote goes to Tower of Guns. It's good, mindless fun, and it is well suited for short sessions. I feel that the balance is right where it isn't too easy, but not frustratingly hard (except for the end boss... that thing is freaking hard). But this only applies if you like (old-school twitch) FPS games. If, not, then skip it. This has been my go-to game to play when I get home from work - no brains required. With all of the unlockable items that are available and the semi-randomization, the game doesn't make you feel like you are wasting your time.

Definitely the early Battlefield games, 1942, Vietnam, BF2 (I don’t have 2142), modded or un-modded. I just start up the game(s), load a map and instead of spawning in, I let the battle start and use freecam to float around on the maps, watching the bots run amuck and listen to the sounds of battle. Truly effortless gaming... :)

cmdr_flashheart: The sleeping game works well for me; the UI is really inconsistent for it, though, so experiences may differ.

But I also suggest tetris.

edit: Actually, OP, I think this might be just the game for you.
Indeed, and sometimes I wind up in strange cities where the UI is further borked by localization errors.
For me it's The WitcherEE, Duke NukemAE or Fallout:Tactics...My most laidback games to rock when tired but always end up playing longer than expected lol
Stacking. You can choose to complete challenges in a variety of ways, find the "high-jinx" characters or just wander around seeing how dolls react to each others unique action.

No time limits, no combat, no stress.
