KhalidYousif: Wow, thanks for the suggestions people.

I forgot to mention that she never played video/computer games before.

lowyhong: What is she into? Being a non-gamer effectively voids most suggestions here, other than P&C games. Even Minecraft may be difficult to get into for a non-gamer, since it may cause motion sickness.
Well, she is into watching movies and reading novels, sometimes writing poetry.
What kind of novels/poetry? Also, what Leroux said.

It seems to me like she's the type who enjoys a more laid back, introverted kind of activity. I have a friend who's like that, and she enjoyed Settlers, but it's better if you tell us more first.

Leroux: Did she express interest in them or are you trying to 'convert' her? Also, is she open-minded or sceptical / pre-judiced towards videogames? That might be important factors in choosing the right game, too.
No, I am trying to convert her. :D

She thinks that video games are silly, for kids and a huge waste of time. I am trying to change her mind by letting her play something close to her interests and find out how much video games can be fun. She got lots of free time anyway.

Romance and drama :)

the_bard: At one time one of my former gfs (shhhhh) and I were working different shifts. We were sending each other letters everday through the Animal Crossing postal system. -___-
You can gift things in that game too.
Awwwwwwww... That's so cute :)
If it's romance and drama, I think your best bet would be P&C games. Something like The Longest Journey sounds like it'll be her cup of tea. And since you say that she thinks games are a waste of time, there's a chance she won't like casual games either. Double edged sword there - casual games may appeal to people like that, but it may also prove their point that games are puerile activities.

It's also important what kind of personality she exhibits. Level-headed or fun-loving?

So what does she usually spend her time on?

After work, watching films or reading novels mostly. Filled with drama and romance etc...
Alright, I can recommend the following:

- The Longest Journey
- Gabriel Knight
- King's Quest 5, 6 or 7
- Grim Fandango (if you can get a copy of it)
- Gemini Rue
- To The Moon
- Blackwell series

You can also consider Plants vs Zombies, but like I said, games like that can be a double edged sword.

Sounds like story-driven games would stand a better chance than casual stuff then. But they'd have to be able to compete with novels and movies. Hm ...

To the Moon, as suggested by several others here, is pretty good in that department, maybe one of the best; sadly it lacks most other things that constitutes a videogame ... If she doesn't mind that she hardly has to do any work herself and that she'd just watch the story unfold, it might work. It's actually more like a drama and romance movie than a game. ;)

Oh yeah, can you namedrop a few titles? Even romance comes in various forms.
I have to echo the suggestion of The Longest Journey - it's a wonderful game and it's especially tailored for people who value exploration and have the patience to listen to lengthy (but fascinating !) dialog... over people who, well, are more into instant clicking gratification.

Kings quest is seconded, but it is very fantasy heavy of course, but good story.
And like I said in my first post, Blackwell saga, they are great games, but get all four together, they are incredibly short on their own and they work best back to back.

Sorry I have no idea. Probably the usual chick flicks :)
Yeah I think you should go for To the Moon, The Sims, Portal 1+2 and the Longest Journey. If one of these doesn't catch her interest, then I do't even know. Other than that take a look at the types of movies/books she likes and find a game that has a similar setting.
