Hello GOGers :D

I have a friend whom her birthday is imminent and I would like to buy her two games as gift.

So I wonder which games is mostly played/preferred by women/girls?

The first game: should have romance and drama elements, the main playable character should be female. And hopefully have few or no blood/gore/fighting/violence/sex/nudity/profanity. Also it doesn't matter to be a point'n'click graphical adventure (although I do like this genre).

The second game: should be a multiplayer/coop game (via LAN or Internet). Doesn't have to be an RGP.

Would love to hear your suggestions and comments :-)

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that she never played video/computer games before.

#1: I'd go for To The Moon. You change between a couple of playable characters, but otherwise it should suit your needs.

The only two games I know of that attracts girls are Left 4 Dead and Minecraft, though it's obvious the former doesn't fit the first of your criteria.

Before anyone argues against Minecraft, it has romance (you see those hearts that pop up between two cows when you breed them?) and drama (NOOO WOLFIE!!!)

Analogue: A Hate Story and Digital: A Love Story could be good for your first choice. Then again, I make no claim to understanding what women want.
Broken Sword 3 : The Sleeping Dragon is a decent adventure game. Some areas you play as George Stobbart and others the French Female Journalist Nico.

For Co Op / Lan something like Neverwinter Nights is a really good RPG, it also has loads of fan made adventures available for it so you would get hours of play after getting through the initial content and expansions you get with it :

#1 that really fits that criteria is Syberia 1 and 2.
high rated
Girls are individuals just like dudes. There's no game that "attracts girls", there's just games that attract this particular girl.

The game you're describing is The Longest Journey, although it has only slightly implied romance. For actual in-game romance, the later Bioware games have them.
It depends on what kind of girls you're talking about, story driven is a no because it doesn't engage them early on, simple games like puzzle bubble work better.
I let is slip for now how sexist it is to imply that all women want romantic and not gore-ish games. :) Albeit, my gf certainly disapproved me playing Carmageddon 2, after she realized that one objective of the game was actually to drive over the pedestrians, ie. I did it on purpose! But that is just one singular case.

It is unclear if she is a gamer or not (ie. does have to be some simplistic casual game that is easy to pick up), but at least if she is not afraid to learn playing a game, one more vote to Minecraft. It even has multiplayer.

I bought Minecraft for a 15 year old girl (relative) as a birthday present, and she loves it. She doesn't play anything else as far as I know, and it has been a few months already. But then other than Minecraft, she doesn't necessarily play much at all.

The sims? Everyone like the sims right.
I must confess I first read the title of the thread as "Games to attract girls".

"Wanna come to my place to drink some fine wine and play a bit of Minecraft together, hmmmmm?".

I've invited girls over to my place to play Wii games...
But yea, girls differ just as much as guys when it comes to game taste.

In regards to the first game, how about a CRPG? Mass effect or Baldur's Gate 2 should both work in this regard.

Multiplayer co-op: Portal 2.

Replace wine with cheep beer and Minecraft with Call of Duty or Guitar hero and you have actual pickup lines I have heard.

Two questions instantly pop into mind:

1. Did they say yes?

2. If so, what did they do in the end? Play Call of Duty or Guitar Hero whole night?

(and of course I don't know your gender and whether those pickup lines were for you?)

Anyway, if someone really pondered what kind of games would make him popular among ladies, I'd think he had no chance to begin with.
