It is nearing the end of 2011 & the major releases are running dry & with that knowledge I really see no reason to wait to make this thread.

Its time to do Game of the Year polling!

I only bought very few new games this year (might buy some more after my exams), but out of those my picks would be:

I didn't buy any bad games or letdowns.

/edit: I don't really know what "Surprise of the Year" means.. If it means "didn't expect to be good, but actually was", then Might & Magic Heroes 6.

Minecraft would be in the running for best game of the year, but its been so popular as a beta that I think it will end up with many not voting simply because they don't see it as a 2011 game. Skyrim will most likely fit into this years top game on the PC at least.

Letdown of the Year 2011- Sword of the Stars 2 - a let down only in how terribly unfinished and buggy the current code is; provided the company keeps working I fully expect (and hope) this to be a top 2012 title (at least for the 4*genre players)

With that in mind, I'll wait with filling out my list (odds are I'll leave the "worst game" categories blank as well - I adore most of my games!).

Still, as a teaser I'll let you know SpaceChem was the surprise hit of the year for me. Incredibly difficult, but brilliant execution. Most people won't have the patience to beat it - I've still got a world and a half left, although that's mostly because my computer died before I could get to them...

Such refreshing gameplay. Too many other rpgs released these days feel like they've been boiled down to twenty minutes of button mashing in between cutscenes - repeated over the course of the game.
