I'm moving to Germany (tomorrow, actually) and I don't have much more than a semester or two of German. I discovered quite by accident that the game Evil Genius has voice over work and text in German as well as English and I've been playing it to help me learn the language.

What other games can be played auf Deutsch? I know this is listed under 'languages' but is there a way to list that as a search term?
E.g. Indigo Prophecy does support German language.

Other than that you can actually play a lot GOG's in German. Maybe you want to check out this thread: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/multilingual_gogs

Enjoy your stay in Germany! ;)

I've managed to play the GOG versions of the Atlantis games in German (and I'm honest, it's one of the few games that actually do sound better in German, probably owing to the fact that the English version is also a translation).

Amerzone can be played in German as well, but I've only played the GOG version in English to date.

Just a tip on the side: if you are planning on buying any games here, check first whether the game might be censored. Some censorship is more subtle (early Medal of Honor games for example), some is quite funny (Flatout, Wolfenstein) but a lot of it causes the game to become completely mutilated (Grand Theft Auto 3).

Do they have to be GOG games?

If not.. Drakensang, immediately springs to mind. A proper crpg version of a pen and paper system...very good, I enjoyed it immensely.
That's super useful! But I suppose I should have been clearer in asking about games that have spoken German - which is rarer - as well as German text.

Thanks for your well wishes. Meiningen, here I come!

This as well. With the Dark Eye games you have the benefit of having German be the original language of the games. The English version is a mere translation.

It's not rare at all. Pretty much every game that is released here has full VO. I know of a few exceptions that don't (Capcom rarely VO their games - they stick with subtitles); but most games have full German voice acting.

What about the Gothic series... i'm pretty sure they have German VO.. especially as they originated there too.
You know what they say, visits Germany before it visits you ;-).

Not on GOG they don't.

I wanted to say the same ;)
Drakensang, Book of Unwritten Tales, Edna bricht aus (Edna&Harvey: The Breakout), Die Gilde, the Gothic games (1&2) for some more... colloquial language. The GOG versions of the latter two probably do not have German audio, though.

Die Vieh Chroniken and Harveys Neue Augen are probably great as well, haven't played those yet.

Well, you can get Gothic Universe from Amazon.de cheap enough these days, and the German release only has the original German. It's missing Götterdämmerung and Arcania, but to be honest that's no great loss.

Arcania is self explanitory and certainly won't be missed....but what's Götterdämmerung?
