Barnell: No it's not any the warlords game. I feel the warlords games are to big. I only remember a small map with maybe 5 castles.

wrong again. It might be a windows game I can't really remember. Damn it had to be 20 years ago.

I have been looking for certain DOS vertical shooter, probably from early 90s (like 1990-1994 or so). Too bad I remember so little about it, but the most distinctive thing was that it was very much like japanese shooters, ie. big explosions, big guns etc. Could be even that it was indeed made by a japanese company. The graphics and scrolling were not completely smooth, a bit jerky, but still very playable game.

Most western made PC vertical shooters of the time were rather slow and not quite as flashy in comparison, like Xenon 2 (ok it's quite flashy :)), Raptor, Tyrian etc.

I've been looking for it in mobygames etc. without success. Anyway I think I played it around 1991-1992, just before the Doom graze (because after Doom appeared, I didn't play much of anything else but it for a year or two. :)). Too bad about vague memories

What were you flying? Or driving? Was it futuristic or WW2ish?

It was just that some of the weapons and armor of extreme rarity had Chinese characters in the name. Also, while the Player sprite didn't show exactly the weapon or armor the player had equipped (like in Titan Quest), the class specific armor and weapon sprites on the player sprite would "upgrade" as the player leveled up and equipped more powerful items (like how the Barbarian in Diablo II starts off with a leather skirt, and ends up with full plate, but only based on the number of points in Defense, not the type of armor itself; properties of armor and weapons determined the colour).
Perhaps it's Nightstone.
There is pretty much no information anywhere else, except that it apparently wasn't very good.
The interface looks Diablo-ish though.

I'd seen that one also when I was searching Mobygames for Diablo clones. That looks like it could be it, but until I see an Epic item with those Chinese or Korean characters, I can't be certain.

predcon: Does anyone remember a Diablo-clone that probably actually used the Diablo engine, and in addition to randomly enchanted weapon drops, certain "super rare" swords and armor and bows had names like "Sun Star Generic Asian Name That Insinuates Great Power" accompanied by one or two Korean (I'm pretty sure it was Korean, on account the game was was of Korean origin, I think) characters? I'm not thinking of RO. I don't think it's "Blade and Sword" either.

Protoss: Lamentation Sword? (Note: Halfway kidding) ;-)
Did not use the Diablo Engine, but played much like it. Only without the goodness. And you had up to three characters.
Gosh darn it, I've been trying to remember the name of this game forever! Cheers!

Sort of nitpicking here, but Prince of Qin isn't based on romance of the three kingdoms. It takes place a few hundred years before the events of that novel. Its a great novel though. My favorite actually.

I'm trying to remember the name of a game I played back in the mid 90's. You had a colony on a planet that you had to construct buildings for, as well as ships. You only had the one colony, and every so often there would be disasters i.e. earthquakes etc. The main plot was to build enough ships to deal with the hostile aliens. The game was like a turn based strategy for building, but when you fought, it became almost like a shooting scroller game with the ships.
I think it came of an old PC mag disk.

Flying (in space), and futuristic. I know, too vague, but I am not sure if there were so many such "japanese" shooters for PC back then, 1991-1993 or so. Note: the game itself was in English if I remember right, it was not japanese-japanese (I think).

hmmmm not sure I can really help, I never been a big fan of vertical shooter.

I've given up on it already, and it doesn't really matter as I have come up so much better shooters ever since. I perused Mobygames for it, but I don't think it is there. Raiden seemed to be the closest, but I don't think it is it either because I think it was completely on space.
