Hi there,

So I recently had the pleasure of decommissioning a 1980-ish Unitron 386 machine for my aunt, who used to play a lot of games like Duke Nukem and Biohazard, etc.

I already found her a new laptop, but I'm trying to find games for her to play on it.

Now this would be easy, but she's quite fussy. :P She doesn't like RTS, FPS, or RPG games, mainly from what I can tell just the old platformers like the ones mentioned earlier and ones like Commander Keen, and Hocus Pocus.

Are there any others you guys can think of?

Cheers!

The original Dukes are here, get her those.
VVVVVV is a retro platformer, albeit a rather short one. Give that one a go?
How about platformers like Trine?
Some really fun and easy to play games, in 2-D old style:

So you don't know a 100% what she would like, thus how can we know?
Just get her a platform then, there are prently. Rayman or Superfrog.

First order of business would be to get her a proper gamepad - playing platformers is a pain on a keyboard, doubly so on a laptop I would expect. The Xbox360 is the standard pad right now, so look for that kind.

Anyhow, there are plenty of platformers available on GOG. Here is a bunch:

FREE PLATFORMER
Treasure Adventure Game (Freeware)

CLASSIC PLATFORMERS
Hocus Pocus
Dangerous Dave Pack
Duke Nukem 1 & 2
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey
Rayman Forever
Rayman 2
Rayman 3
Superfrog

MODERN PLATFORMERS
VVVVVV
Great Giana Sister: Twisted Dream (There is some DLC for this game, too.)
Trine

HARD BUT AWESOME
Spelunky
La-Mulana
Volgarr the Viking

1. Gamepads are of the devil. People who aren't used to them -- old PC platformer fans like me and possibly OP's aunt -- won't necessarily find them preferable to the keyboard.
1a. That being said, specifically laptop keyboards are too flimsy for platformers (La-Mulana finished what WoW started with mine), so it's either a gamepad or an external keyboard.
2. You forgot Rogue Legacy.
From GOG - Dangerous Dave and Earthworm Jim are musts. Also, ask her to watch a video of MDK, she might like that too .
get her Flashback and Another World :) those are great!

then of course Prehistorik, Golden Axe, Fury of the Furries... man, I played a lot as a kid :D

Sorry should have specified, I have given her both dukes, Hocus Pocus, Biohazard, Dangerous Dave, and I think a couple of others also.

Interesting, I hadn't seen that one. Thanks

Also should have specified, she doesn't like 3d games, a sort of motion sickness I think. Thanks, I'll try her with a couple of those. She doesn't like the oddworld series though, unfortunately, as she prefers the shoot-everything type ones from what I can tell. Thanks

I was just looking for suggestions mate. :) Cheers anyhow

Surprisingly she doesn't mind the keyboard, I had a PS2 usb controller I was going to give her but she'd rather use the keyboard. :-|

I'll look through those and see which look most like the ones she likes now, thanks.

I was considering Earthworm Jim, though next time she's here I'll show it to her and see.

I actually skimmed through the GOG catalogue a few months ago with her to try and find one in specific, though there were a few others she was interesting in. Ty

Thanks, looks like I'll have quite a few to sort through.

Cheers everyone!

Of all 2D platformers on GOG, Dangerous Dave is the best, and no person who knows anything would contradict me . Earthworm Jim comes close, and I really think she'll like it, and I'm talking as someone who played Commander Keen when he was 6, and loved every second of it.

She has one of the dangerous dave ones, the I'm not sure which one. It looks a lot more basic then the ones on GOG, it was one I salvaged off the Unitron.

I will grab the dave ones for though, I should have done so before. :) Cheers
I'm so stupid. Why didn't I think of this earlier!?

You're probably refering to the first one, which is much more basic, and also freeware . The ones on GOG are a different matter, and a LOT better than the first .
