Firstly, I just want to say to the GOG.com team - I love you guys. Your mission to preserve the classics is, in my mind, incredibly important. Games are a form of media that do not receive the recognition they deserve: these are works of art, story-telling, technology and communication that have had a profound effect on the lives of many people and have influenced societies around the world!

Anyway, now I've got that off my chest - I've been having a minor issue with some games purchased on GOG, namely Dark Reign, Tyrian 2000 and Fallout Tactics. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a 16:9 (1920 x 1080) resolution monitor. While I don't expect many old games to support that resolution or have a patch for it, I was hoping they would at least stretch to my monitor size, but they don't.

Example: I own an original copy of Dark Reign. I managed to get it running on my system, with the 640x480 res stretched to fit my monitor (with black bars down the sides, as it's 4:3), but the colours were all screwy. So I purchased the GOG.com version. Now the colours are fine and the game runs great - except it doesn't stretch the 640x480 res to fill my screen... meaning I have a tiny little copy of Dark Reign running, surrounded by black space.

Compatability mode 640x480 resolution doesn't do anything. I haven't tried this yet, but I was going to lower my desktop resolution as a temporary workaround.

Fallout Tactics, Dark Reign and Tyrian 2000 are the only games that I've had this issue with so far.

Hello, sorry to say I don't know whats going on, I don't have any of those games, but, I have never expereinced such a problem as that on any GOG's I've bought.
Have you looked through the support pages for the games? You could also contact GoG people if you haven't yet.
If I had that happen, though I'm not an expert on computers at all, I would see if my monitor is somehow responsible. I'd play with some buttons on it while I was playing one of the games, go through the monitor's menu, see if there was a way to expand the image. Of course be sure to write down what your monitor was at before you fiddle with it. You've probably already tried doing this, so sorry I wasn't a help. :\

EDIT: Just realized I just Downloaded the Free Tyrian 2000. And now I just tried it out...Had a few crashes at first, but, no resolution problems on my computer...since its a dox box game Alt Enter makes it switch between windowed and full screen mode. Don't think that is your problem though, you could always give it a try. I had to change my graphic mode setup (in the games config program) to stop the crashes made it Direct3D seems to work now with that, but, again I doubt that's your problem. Good luck :)

Check for an ini file, or a setup exe in the game folder and see if fullscreen is enabled.

If your running an nvidia or ati(amd) graphics card all you should need to do is go into your cards control panel and change the scaling options.

If you've had problems doing this in the past with nvidia drivers (as I have) try out the latest 275.27 beta drivers. They appear to have fixed previous issues. Previously I had to first change to 1024x768 resolution in order for the scaling options to show up. Tyrian 2000 is definitely a dosbox configuration issue though.

Does your moitor have scaling options in its menus?

Could not find any scaling options, will try the latest nVidia drivers. Running a GTX 295.

If you go into your nvidia control panel, the settings you want will be under display ---> adjust desktop size and position. It should have options for scaling when you use a resolution lower then the native res.

No option to change scaling options therre, will try new drivers now.

It's under "Display"->"Adjust desktop size and position" in the Nvidia Control Panel.
You, obviously, want the "Aspect ratio scaling". If it fails on occasion, try the "override" checkbox.

This may be of some relevance... what kind of cable do you connect your monitor to your video card with?

For Tyrian, edit dosboxT2K.conf to say fullscreen=true and aspect=true.

For Fallout: Tactics, use the widescreen patch.

Also, change fullresolution from original to 0x0. 0x0 means whatever your desktop resolution is, it makes .conf files more portable. =D

I assume it would of been hdmi or dvi at 1920x1080 resolution. Do they make vga monitors at those resolutions?
