Ok, so I purchased a copy of Gun Metal from GG and it gave me the 'no CD in drive' error.

Someone had already asked on their awhile back about this and it was suggested to them to just go and get a crack.

I can't find any cracks that don't require pulling down the whole pirated game a long with it.

But if distributors are going to sell games like this, what's the point of paying for them? Why don't they just give the address to the hack site that I can pull it for free since I have to in order to get it to work.

Contact GG support, I doubt the "get a crack" thing was an official response.
Probably just a corrupted download. I think I had that issue with Titan Quest once. Just re-download it and you should be good to go.

Do let us know if GamersGate support comes through for you. In the mean time, gamecopyworld or similar is what you want to get just the fixed exe.

That's possible but the one other person whom bought it on GG responded on GG with the same issue.

And naw, it wasn't an official response - they have sort of a Yahoo Answers thing going on.

I have written to them but these things usually take yonks to get resolved.

Currently working with the creators of Nimbus to get a 'no SSE2' fix and I totally gave up on 2k and Winterbottom.

But 'no SSE2' I can understand cause I have an ancient processor but you would've thought that Yeti would've checked this before handing it off to GG. It'd be good if GG were to check their games as well.

Also Yeti's site is just one page with their logo on it , otherwise the merchandiser has a "make sure your PC is plugged in' support page. I'm pretty sure they don't have a patch.

Tried GameCopyWorld (and several others - my PC probably has syphilis now) the links there are empty.

Also tried a torrent from PirateBay but no one is seeding (the game is THAT popular =L).

I have a feeling that it will probably end up having to get refunded because I don't think GG is going to have any more luck with Yeti than what I did.

And refunding usually takes a few weeks of sending screen captures back and forth.

They are a bit faster than Impluse though - my return on Impulse took two months.

Try megagames (just google megagames gunmetal).

Thanks man, was there previously and that was the site that looked like I had to download the entire game to get the fix but after inspecting it closer I found that I could pull the fix solo.

And just ran it and it worked beautifully.

So thanks tons. When GG writes back I'll just let them know that I cracked it and request that they try to get an official fix.

Not many people are going to want to risk getting viruses having to prowl around Warez sites.
Very strange that a company can give such answers. Can somebody publish answers like this?

At least they should be paying royalties to the pirates when they are referring to their work without asking for permission! :)

It wasn't an official response from the GG employees. They have a Q&A system set up that other users can help other users through. GG probably doesn't even realize that the game needs a patch.

And that's the frustrating thing, between the distributor and GG, they should be testing this stuff because the refund process takes a long time and it also lets good games go to waste.

But yeah, you're right. The pirates might be able to get themselves official and good paying jobs setting up a game repair site.

I doubt that was an official response. I assume this came from that "game tutor" thing they have, where questions are answered by other members, not by staff.

As mentioned above, it wasn't official BUT it's the only functional response that I think GG is going to be able to come up with because the developer looks to be kaput.

Of course, editing the executable so that it is no longer CD dependent and recompiling shouldn't be too difficult if GG wanted to do it themselves and host a simple 'Community Patch.'
A redownload (specifically with your anti-virus software temporarily shut off) should do the trick. I had this exact issue when it came to playing Civilization 3 from GG and redownloading it with Avast temporarily off fixed the issue.

This still could be possible. Me and the one other person whom bought it and spoke up might've got a corrupt download. If he hadn't posted asking about it too I might've tried downloading again.

There are two votes cast and no player reviews so that guarantees at least three purchases (counting mine because I haven't voted yet.).

Here...

I always use this site if I don't want to use the original DVDs.
Here's the store page if you want to see what I'm talking about

That site looks it covers everything but those links on that page are dead...unless there is a certain way of downloading them. Saving from right click context menu just saves the entire page.
