If the game doesn't have a serial number, online activation in particular, then yes.

thanks for the answer
You can add me as well on Gamersgate. Username is "acare84".
Actually, I asked about the PC/Mac gifting from the GamersGate support a few weeks back. (Sorry for the necromancing.)

Here's my question:
"Hi there!
I've searched for an answer to this on the internet, but:
If you buy a game on GamersGate and receive the game for both PC/Mac, are they both licensed to the same user? For example, you can't give the Mac game away to someone else, because it's licensed to you and you only?

I think it's very generous that you do this, by bundling both releases together on most games. I would like to know what your standpoint on this is.

Thanks!
Best wishes, Me"

Their answer:
"Yes, they are for one user. There is only one serial for activation included."

You can interpret this in many ways, but I believe that when you receive both you've only paid the price for one copy of the game, not two. Why they are still giftable is beyond me. I think that when you buy a game on GG and receive both they are both for one user only based on this answer.

So I don't think it's alright to give the Mac copies away. Prove me wrong if you wish.

In my experience, their response is incorrect. Mac games are separate from PC games even so far as having completely different CD keys (even in a different format). Of all the games I have on GamersGate, I can recall only one PC and Mac game sharing the same CD key.

Not to mention that the separate Mac versions have their own "gift" button. So even if you claim the PC version, the Mac version can still be gifted. If GamersGate feel that people shouldn't be gifting those, then they need to change their system to disable gifting of both version once the key for the other version is claimed.
Yep. Gifting mac versions of the game is nothing bad at all, since it's possible on GamersGate without any cheating or shady moves.

If only I could find anyone interested in having them....

I've tried trading them, I've tried offering them free, but they're still there....
Because there's no gamer that wouldn't be ashamed to admit "I'm playing on Mac" :D

Yeah, but this answer from support got me thinking that it's not intended. You pay the ordinary price for a game, yet you get two copies, which are for different OSes.

I don't think this is a good comparison, but I think it's a bit like giving away the Steam key from a Humble Bundle yet yourself downloading the DRM -free versions. It isn't alright with HB as one bundle is supposed to have just one sole owner. -Source?- Yet people are still doing this because there isn't a system to prevent it. There is no cheating nor shady moves there (okay, there is as HB sees it, same as GG sees here), just copy and paste.

I think the answer I got from GG reflects this that one purchased game should have just one owner. I could ask them again if that's needed, but I think I would need to phrase my question better.

@bansama
Wow, I didn't know they had different keys for certain games. I thought they were all the same. I've never checked, but that contradicts the answer from GG.

I agree that they should change their system if you shouldn't be able to gift them. Perhaps putting both download links under the same title, not separately.

Thank you all for your responses. :>
