Woolytoes: Quote: Gamersgate FAQ:
"Can I download the game on my office PC and install it on my home PC which does not have an Internet connection?

No, you cannot. Internet connection is required to install games"

For me an absolute NO GO! It tells me that there is some kind of stupid DRM involved. Funny thing, it is indeed stupid and useless.

Downloading and Installing are two complete different pair off boots. Like Apples and Pears, ya know?
I did explain how to bypass that...

You can install on a computer without an internet connection, you just have to do the thing that I said before and then copy the installer to the computer using a pen-drive, 800 floppy discs, however you want.

avatar
Fred_DM: only in theory. nowadays it's common that you need an internet connection to install games, even physical copies.

but this is all besides the point because GamersGate downloads can easily be backed up DRM-free. no point in arguing about theoretical issues when there are practical solutions.
Yeah, but when a game is DRM-free it shouldn't require internet to install. If Woolytoes doesn't want to bypass the stupid downloader like I explained, that's his loss...

23 and half hours left. 5114 units sold, $42794.81 generated. Doesn't seem we're going to see what the big secret is :-p

Shall we start speculating what went wrong and what could've been done better?

Shall I start?

Bundle was obviously aimed towards RPG enthusiatics with 5 out of 6 games being some sort of RPG.
Bonus tiers weren't that great for most people (most don't care about OST's) and some were clearly overoptimistic from the start (50000 bundles sold. I belive only Humble Bundle reaches those sales and it has option to pay 1 cent).
Games were GG only (understandable but keys for other DD platforms would've obviously drawn more people in. I did not mind but many others probably did.).
No bundle specific social media used and not much effort put on "getting the word out there". Most people will never even know this bundle existed.

Anything else?

Petrell: Anything else?
you've summed it up pretty well, i'd say. i ended up buying it but i can see why a lot of folks probably stayed away;

- no uniform release policy: Wanderlust isn't downloaded like regular GamersGate games. along with Kenshi it requires a third-party downloader. they also both require you to register/activate your copy with the provided CD-key.
- unifinished/unpolished game: Kenshi is work in progress, and it shows.
- no unlockable bonus games of comparable quality.

and 50'000 units sold was overly optimistic. the Indie Gala 3 bundle hasn't reached 20'000 yet and it's been on sale for like 3 weeks, and that's a fairly well established brand by now.

still, i hope this doesn't discourage GamersGate in any way and i'm looking forward to their second bundle.

Its looks like they added 3 more day to Indiefort. I am still on the fence on this one, I already own Cardinal quest and Steel retribution and wanderlust doesn't look like my type of game. So I really hoping this shhh its a secret is a good game.

SirCabbage: Black Market is a great game for anyone who loves space trading games, its fun and amusing, so if I didnt already own it I may have picked it up just for that.

Woolytoes: Is there a difference to the version I can download directly from the developers fro free?

There is a limiting cap on things, its still pretty long but it is a "demo". Basically you get the first segment of story. I know they dont meantion it, but thats how it works.
they increased the days and the secret thing is getting close. think it will be reached now.
its the most i am anxious about in this pack :p

Good for you hahahahha
Any guesses on the shhh thing? A bit over $1500 needed to unlock. Would be a fine troll if the deadline hits with about $10 remaining...

No "big name" game. The bundles that have sold best thus far have been the ones that have been able to attract at least one of the indie titles that have got a lot of media attention. None of the indie fort bundles are very well known, with Steel Storm probably being the most well known, followed by Kenshi. How many had even heard of Black Market or Devil Whiskey before the bundle started? I've not seen a single mention of those two in the press before this bundle.

Pheace: So basically if you pay $6 it's like a normal indie bundle being sold by Steam or GG, Developer/GG take a cut, kind of like a normal sale. Like the $5 for 5 indie games bundles Steam had for instance.

Just, on top of that, you get the option to pay more now, and that money goes to the developers.
That would appear to be confirmed.

"The bundle is a minimum of $5.99, with any extra money going straight into the pockets of the devs, no cuts."

Article is a good review of the games in the bundle, if like me you've never heard of them. I particularly like Devils Whisky, but then am the kind of old (ancient?) school gamer who actually pulls out the Commodore 64 every now and again to have a bash around Skara Brae. The others in the bundle don't fire me up, but well done to Gamers Gate for taking the initiative and having a go.

My hopes are on "Tomes of Mephistopheles". It was scheduled to be in the bundle before the bundle was officially announced, but was then replaced by the developer's former product, Steel Storm. My guess is based on the fact that most devs contributed one game and one extra, that I don't see an extra from this developer, and that two other devs chose there current in-development products as extras. I might be wrong though, marketing-wise it wouldn't be the best move to include "Tomes of Mephistopheles" without announcing that.

It could also be something like "Kenshi Soundtrack" since I don't see an extra by Lo-Fi Games either.

The bundle apparently had a bit of a rough time. With "Tomes of Mephistopheles" instead of "Steel Storm", and "Ascension" instead of "Devil Whiskey", it would have been more interesting for me, and the marketing wasn't too great either. It's still not a bad offer imho, but it also isn't a very good one, most of the games are either old or unfinished. But I bought it anyway ... hoping for better offers next time. Having regular Indie bundles on GamersGate would be a good thing, so I decided to support the effort.

Lol, just found out that you can't posses more than 2 copies of any given product on GG without asking support first :-p. I was planning to buy third bundle so I had 2 to give away but system is not letting me. I wonder if it would suffice if I gave away the bundle part (it contains Steel Storm OST) and if that can even be done. Anyone know?

I also noticed that while I have 2 bundles I only got one mac copy of cardinal quest.

Oh and just $515.03 to go for "shhh... it's a secret!" with 21 hours left.

I had bought multiple copies in the past. You can probably get more than 1 copy of any game except those in the bundle, so this must be specific to the bundle.

I'm doing the F5 dance. Bundle doesn't get bought quickly enough to make that enjoyable unfortunately. Better go back to kickstarters.
