Experiment 112 is on sale, too.

lugum: edna and harvey is a superb adventure that could match any good adventure game
of the old days. playing the sequel atm, translated, harveys new eyes

Leroux: I'm wondering if I should play the original, in German, which would make the most sense for me as a native speaker. On the other hand, comparing gameplay videos on youtube, I somehow find the English localization more enjoyable (which is probably a sacrilege, but it seems to be more professional), so I'm a bit on the fence there. I'd buy it this instance if I knew both languages were included, but I suspect the GamersGate version is just the English translation.

Foxhack: Jolly Rover does -not- have any Securom on Steam. It's just, well, Steam.
avatar
Leroux: It does on GamersGate apparantly. And I've got bad experiences with GamersGate games using SecuRom, so in that regard Steam might be the better choice. But it would still require online activation and that's the other thing I'm trying to avoid.
i played the german version of edna and harvey , german is not my native language but i would like to learn it and dutch is close to it.
it didnt have both languages included, same goes for harveys neue eugen, german only too. but i can say the german voices are done outstanding, but it might sound different to you when its your native language.you could try youtube a movie for it and see which language you prefer.

Yeah, I did that and like DukeNukemForever, to me the English voices sounded more fun. Anyway, the German version is available at the library here, so maybe I'll borrow that AND buy the English version from GamersGate, at least the developers get some of my money that way, and if the game's really that good, it might be fun to replay it and compare the versions. Any estimation on how long it is?

darknath: Kaptain Brawe is cheaper on Steam with the current sale!
avatar
Leroux: Hm, for me it says 3.99 EUR on Steam, 2.80 EUR on GamersGate. I wish I knew if teh GamersGate version has any kind of DRM (I only get See bundled products, regardless of where I click). Did you play it, by chance?
Weird.. It's 7 EUR on GG and 4 EUR on steam for me :S

yeah.. Kaptain Brawe is pretty nice for the price.. only problem is no voice acting :(
I sort of liked Jolly Rover. It's not terribly original, but it's an enjoyable distraction for a few hours. There are some nice puzzles and some good jokes here and there, otherwise average to slightly above average.

its about medium, not long but not short either.it will certainly give you some very long nights of gameplay. took myself 2 weeks to finish all in all.

I was about to comment on the Swedes trying to rip off you Danes, but now I see it's 7 EUR here, too, today. :D

So either there was something wrong on my end yesterday or I missed the sale's deadline. :(
Check File Planet and Gamers Hell - there are demos for all three games.

When it comes to point and click they usually all tend to be equally as good for one reason or the other.

To be a bit more honest about Jolly Rover - the voice acting and animation are good, the puzzles are fairly clever but it felt aimed towards a young audience.

carnival73: ~snip~
Thank you, too. I already downloaded a Kaptain Brawe demo, will also look for the others now.

Interesting that opinions on whether the English or German voices in Edna&Harvey are better are so divided - I watched some youtube videos and clearly preferred the German ones... comes down to personal taste, I guess.

About Jolly Rover: Got it on steam in one of those indie packs last Christmas, I believe (5 indie games for 4,50€). I played it a bit to get that achievement in the steam summer camp, but found it mediocre - nothing about it really appealed to me (be it jokes, riddles or style), and I deinstalled it afterwards. I'd recommend the Monkey Island special editions, but most adventure fans will probably have played those (or the originals) by now ;)

And they're a matter of personal taste, too. :D

Personally I don't like the new art style of the makeover, I still think the originals have a lot more charme.

Special editions have the originals bundled. You just have to press F10 or something and they switch to the original looks/sound.
