Simbabluenobi: I second TITAN QUEST ... but get the IMMORTAL THRONE version (GOLD) as it is the same game with fixes and added stuff.
Features:
10 Additional Character Levels– allows players to bring existing and new characters to new heights, along with higher level equipment and skills
8 New Character Classes– The expansion pack features an entirely new skill mastery, which combines with existing skill masteries to create eight new exciting character classes.
New Exotic Monsters and Locations– Quest through exotic locations in the Mediterranean area and ultimately descend across the river Styx into the heart of Hades. Defeat terrifying new monsters on your way to victory!
Artifacts & Enchanters– A new type of rare equipment that gives the player characters a powerful bonus. Plus, new non-player characters that can create artifacts from recipes.
More Unique Equipment– Uncover hundreds of powerful new unique items and use Caravans to store them as you quest through the Underworld of Hades.

Can't get it here on GOG but Amazon has it on sale a lot.
Right now GOLD (both games .. Titan Quest and the expansion Immortal Throne) is 20 and as IMMORTAL is an expansion it needs the base game to install ...
activates on STEAM and they sell it as well ....

(edited for correction ...)
You forgot the most important addition, the ability to reset your skills when you get to (Sparta?) I wish more games had that! You bust your hump through level after level and realize you dumped all of your points into a worthless skill.

carnival73: I've just gone and checked, they offer one franchise that is Diablo similar called Dawn of Magic.

I've been considering looking into this game for quite some time but have never had a chance to try it yet.
avatar
mighty.ape.acct: Installed Dawn of Magic 2, uninstalled a day later and never played again... It was painful

Torchlight 1 and 2 are plenty of fun and Titan Quest (with Immortal Throne) was pretty good too

Dungeon Siege 1, 2 and 3 are OK too
DoM2 was absolutely terrible and you could tell it was place holder during the Harry Potter explosion in case they were asked to boost hype on the video game end.

Erm...although Avencast was obviously a Harry Potter template in waiting as well but at least that game turned out fairly decent even despite it not having been turned into an official Harry product.
While Sacred 2 is buggy there are a number of ways to fix it and it won't help having a computer that barely minimum requirements as well. Check the forum if you're interested but I recommend waiting until you have a computer that at least meet the recommended requirements, preferably faster.
What about the 2004 version of a bards tale?

I was spot on minimum before and it ran a bit slow even with all graphics turned down.

This is what I've been running since last month but haven't put Sacred 2 Gold back on again yet.

Operating System
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit SP3

CPU
Intel Pentium G850 @ 2.90GHz

RAM
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz

Graphics
2048MB AMD Radeon HD 6670
Torchlight, Torchlight II
NOX
Dungeon Siege
Titan Quest
Loki

I'd recommend the Torchlight and Nox games, Torchlight II is very much like Diablo 2 for me.

edit\ oh but you want gamepad support

There's an unofficial mod for Torchlight II which supports the 360 pad if that helps.

gameon: What about the 2004 version of a bards tale?
I have the complete collection along with the complete collection of Icewind Dale hard copy.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm thinking Baldur's............yeah, I got that back awhile ago on Steam when it was last on sale. I think the sale was mentioned earlier in this thread (can't remember).

This is critically awesome info!

Off to go and find that MOD right now.

The others I've played or own. NOX was a lot of fun (played it during its original release.)

EDIT: Here's the link for Game Pad MOD http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/vbdownloads.php?do=download&fileid=312

Total tits to this guy! Ruinic needs to hire him immediately since he's the only one in the universe who knows how to fix this clickity-click Diablo crap.

It's not bad, I was using it a few days ago, only complaint is that the mouse cursor remains; there might be a way to remove that, but it's not a huge deal anyway.

I've come to play a lot of games with gamepad now, even Civilization, I just use Xpadder and make custom profiles.

carnival73: I got TQ Gold for about 5 bucks during a Steam sale a couple years back.

Never installed it because I suspected it to be a short game (saving all short games for last) - Much shorter than Sacred or Diablo..maybe I'm mistaken?
avatar
Licurg: Can't say for sure, never finished it and never played it with the expansion, but i'm pretty sure it's bigger than Diablo 2.
It's big enough, with harder modes, or you can mod it to have an amazing drop rate of amazing gear. This actually makes the game brutally more difficult since all the enemies actually use the gear that they will later drop.

The Minotaur boss once spawned with a super rare and powerful axe when I wasn't paying too much attention to the animation...

lowyhong: Btw, I strongly recommend Path of Exile. It's well worth the $10 you pay to get into closed beta. The only caveat is that you can't play with a gamepad.

It's definitely more hackish and slashing than Sacred, but it does that very well. At the same time, the story is quite well-fleshed out. The lore is solid. Oh and it has at least one occurrence of choices and consequences. Maybe there are more, but I stopped playing after level 29 because it was taking up too much of my time.
This is an excellent suggestion.

My Logitech software can map most things to D-Input.
X-Input mode on the Logitech is fine for most titles but every once in awhile you still have to edit the config file because Logitechs triggers are analogue (in the instance you ever need analogue buttons as well) and X-Input games respect them as digital.

Mapping Torchlight II took the special program this guy wrote however because most you could do with Logitech's Profiler would be to map mouse to to analogue - which still results in having to steer a mouse cursor around over enemies. Also there are no WASD or Arrow movement commands.

This was the same problem with Sacred 2 but Sacred 2 does offer WASD alternative and managing the mouse cursor wasn't as difficult with the analogue stick.
