I'm travelling to Poland for two weeks. Although I already have a few books and crosswords to keep me entertained, I'm also looking for something to play. For this I have a Nintendo DSi. More specifically I'm looking for a game called Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, preferably new. I've tried Googling around, but since my polish is limited to a few phrases and words, I haven't found anything useful.

So does anyone know any decent game stores in either the center of Warsaw or Krakow for NDS games? Is there anything else I need to know, such as games being in polish due to localization or something silimar?

I wasn't sure if we even have stores like that, Nintendo never made itbig in Poland. I remember there were a few [liretaly, a few] DS games on the supermarkets shelves.
But i found this site: http://krakow.gameover.pl/sklep/index.php?p2374,dragon-quest-ix-sentinels-of-the-starry-sky-ds
The store is located in Krakow, the price is ~25buckaroos. Can't tell You how legit the store is, You'd gave to ask a Nintendo user from Krakow.
look for EMPIK ;-)

The most overpriced store EVER!!!

I bought Kingdom of Heaven a game that came out with the launch of the PSP for 175 PLN! Stupid of me to do so but I wanted a copy and didn't know about allegro.pl :D

Yeah, but at least most of the staff speaks English ;P

you can also look in MEDIA MARKT, but I don't know how much NDS games they would have.

btw. you could also try ULTIMA.PL

Sklep: ULTiMA.pl
Chłodna street 35/37 pawilon 7

http://www.ultima.pl/index.php?boxid=7,638

but from what I see, NDS games are really in decline and most stores switched to 3DS.

There's no real way to tell if a game has been localised into Polish or not, or if a certain game supports English (unlike Finland, where everything is in English anyway, so I had no problems buying games there).

Not all games are localised into Polish - gamers there often have to make do with English versions - but those games that are localised usually don't have English support on the storage medium.

Western Europe and Eastern Europe are treated as two different regions. Publishers will often handle localisation for Western Europe themselves (hence the EFIGS acronym, representing the usual five languages for a game) and let whoever is publishing in Eastern Europe (1C, CDP...) handle localisation for those territories.

As far I know though, Nintendo itself doesn't even bother localising for Eastern Europe, they just leave it in English.

Yyy... yeah... Usually, if it's localised, it has a little Polish flag on a cover, and if it's in english, it has GB flag on a box.

If there is not, you should look for information ona box.

JĘZYK: ANGIELSKI means the game is in English. If you're not sure, you should ask a salesman.

but you're right for Nintendo games, they will usually be in English only

One of the reasons I've switched to digital is to get away from polinizations. As far as I can tell, pretty much every PC game sold around here is in Polish, at the very least in subtitles.
Thank you for all the replies so far. I went through Empik's, Media Markt's and Ultima.pl web pages, but none said the game was available. My best bet seems to be the Game Over store in Krakow. It's also conveniently located next to the Old Town. I'll probably also look in the chain stores (such as Empik and Media Markt) as well, in case they have a left overs bin or similar if I come across them. The same goes for large department stores I might visit. I'll see what happens and give rep later, in case someone comes up with a good store still.

If NDS never was that big in Poland, I guess the game will be in english. I remember getting The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past from Germany as a kid, when I knew basic english. When we got home from that trip I noticed the game was in german and couldn't understand a thing. Somehow I managed to finish it though, but got stuck a few times :)

There's always this option but you should use Chrome with auto translate on and maybe have a Polish friend help you out with some of the trickier words.

Allegro.pl is the Polish version of ebay for those not in the know :P

I've not actually been inside a Media Markt in Poland, but pictures suggest that they're exactly like the ones here in Germany, in which case, you're about to get the shock of your life just how many games these stores sell (including PC games)...

I have an idea :D Judas orders the game on allegro and receives in GOG.com office, and OP visit's GOG and gets the game
After that they go to drink some beers
???
PROFIT! ;p

Sometimes you can hit good deals in hipermarkets (Bad Mojo - $1,5, Pathologic - $3, Tension\Void - $3, Black Mirror - $2,5, Art of Murder - $2,5 and so on; just to list few I've seen recently).

I've been using Google Translate to translate the pages. Also, my wife knows Polish, but she's stressed enough already about the trip, so I don't want to bother her with "find me a game store that sells this game" tasks :) Allegro.pl I knew from before, but forgot about it. I don't think I'll be stationary enough to order the game by mail and the stores selling it there were note in Warsaw or Krakow. Thanks for the idea, though.
