it's a list..

nice read
I've been keeping an eye on that as it developed. Not a bad list on the whole. Naturally, I think it needs more Total Annihilation. Especially over Starcraft, which didn't really move the genre forward at all.
No Dark Forces 2? YAAAAAAWN.
Hmm... too many sequels?
Having Wolf3D, Doom and Doom II? for what purpose?
DoTT, Sam&Max, SoMI and Curse but no Quest for Glory (or any other Sierra adventures for that matter...)?
A good list, but lacks representation from some very noteworthy titles. These are always quite subjective though.

oh, my thread was misnamed, if you read the article it's gamespy's favorite games from the 90's, those games I guess they didn't like so much.

Ahhh.... Total Annihilation. Yep.

What gets me is that they chose the first Dark Forces over the second. The first Dark Forces was a straight-up Doom clone. The second game resembled more of an independent structure, and was infinitely more enjoyable.
EDIT: Yeah, looks like I misread your subject, too.

That definitely needed to be in there! Way more so than Doom 2. Which was a pretty unnecessary inclusion.

The best RTS for many a year.

Ah well, in that case, I am disappointed that those were their favourites!
My experience of the 90s seems to have been quite different, as I would have mentioned various Sierra and Origin games, for a start.

Well, to be honest, even if I love Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II and Jedi Outcast, it was so good when Kyle was just an ex-imperial, bad ass mercenary, before the big "Star Wars game = lightsaber" direction that took LucasArts since JK1.
Reading the comments section provides a much better list imho.
What? I don't see Freespace, Freespace 2, or Fallout anywhere on this list. Hmmm... then again, pretty much everything else on there is still good, or at least was thought of as good when it came out...
Counter Strike? Are you serious?

No, it has to be a joke... For God's sake let it be a joke.
