GameRager: Sin Episodes needs a sequal but I think they have no money or something. Too bad too...because the lead-in/teaser to a part 2 at the end of the game is pretty awesome.
I believe the problem is that the studio that made Sin Episodes, Ritual Entertainment, got bought up by some casual games developer called MumboJumbo who had no interest in continuing with any of their games, forcing them to instead develop casual games instead. Prior to and after the acquisition many of the staff left the studio, meaning that even if they wanted to they probably don't have the devs to do it anymore anyway.

Snickersnack: It would be nice if Ritual/ Mumbo Jumbo would release the source to the original Sin. With some tweaking it could be better than Half-Life. Unfortunately with the Zenimax purchase of id, I think the window for that sort of thing is closing fast.
avatar
drmlessgames: Ritual was bought by Mumbo Jumbo, so they own the game. Zenimax doesnt have anything to do with it. Has someone tried contacting them? They may listen, since their core games are not the type of games Ritual made.
Sin was built on idtech 2. I doubt Mumbo Jumbo can open source Sin without Zenimax's blessing. It's likely that even their gamecode is tainted with id's IP. Hmmm ... does anyone know if the original Sin ever had a sdk released?

I have not tried contacting them. I suppose the way to do it would be to sell the idea to the old Hipnotic crew and see if they can open doors for us.

Sin would make an excellent GOG.

Well all ID's engine have been released as open source up until version 3 included so it shouldn't be a problem.

Legacy of Kain - and all that goes with it... id love to see it done with modern tech...

I am not so certain. For Sin, Ritual surely used an earlier branch of idtech 2 than the one that was later relicensed under the GPL. That earlier branch would still carry the original non-GPL license?

All id GPL releases include all branches of the tech that's open sourced. Wouldnt matter if they used an early id tech 2, it would then be id tech 1, or the first quake engine, which is GPL too.
Hmm let's see:

- Space Quest. The last wasn't that great but the ones before that were.

- Leisure Suit Larry. The REAL LSL, not his stupid nephew.

- Cannon Fodder - same game but with update graphics and some more weapons

- proper TIE Fighter or X-Wing game

- Dizzy games!
In no particular order:

Rogue. I quite like the Desktop Dungeons remake but I can't get past the first floor AT ALL. What I really want is more of an Apple Rogue remake with more levels, better graphics and yeah... That would rule. Keep it simple, stupid, mind.

Might and Magic 1 - 7, all remade. Or at the very least put together into one colossal map (keep the lush sprites and everything but for the LOVE OF FUCKING GOD, remake the interface. *shudders*)

Alpha Centauri - graphical overhaul, leave gameplay alone. If it ain't broke... (But I WOULD suggest you add a few more tech trees and maybe species/factions?

A gazillion platformers.

Master of Orion 2 - graphical overhaul and DO NOT FUCKING GO WHERE YOU DID WITH Moo3, that was an absolute abomination and unworthy of the greatness of the franchise.

Hmmm, that's about ... ah! And yes, Magic the Gathering. The original Win95 game - just fix up the Shandalar map a little, make it more relevant to the little quotes on the Magic cards - like, make it so you CAN meet and befriend/duel Squee or go to the Yavimaya forests etc... And update the card database - what would ABSOLUTELY rule would be if you could play each campaign as in each generation of cards... Oh god, I would pay 100 bucks without hesitation for that.

^^This. Unless the Sin IP is sold off to someone else or MumboJumbo gets bought out by someone with an interest in and the resources to make FPS/action games, the Sin series is dead to all of us. A real shame too, the first episode showed some great promise.

As for the series I'd like to see revived...

Freelancer - was supposed to have a sequel, got cancelled. Terrible injustice.
Freedom Force - was supposed to be a trilogy, now we'll never know how it ends (unless you've read the Phoenix Saga in X-Men).
Advent Rising - goddamned game ended on a freakin' cliffhanger! Was also supposed to be a trilogy.
KotOR - yes, I know there is this MMO coming out, but that is not a sequel to one of the best damn games ever, that is a travesty.
Star Trek: Armada - I'm probably one of the few on this one, but I played the shit out of the first two games, would love to play me some more.
NOLF - the fact that there were only two of these games is another terrible injustice (I don't count Contract J.A.C.K., no one should).
Tron 2.0 - yes, I know about the new movie and the requisite video game tie-in, but neither of them have anything to do with this hidden gem of a video game.
Scrapland - Not really a great game, but a great universe to play in with tons of potential. A sequel or two would get my money.

I liked the first episode a lot more than the first episode of HL2 (which was crap, to be honest). A sad thing that there was no second episode ...

May I recommend to you Torchlight? I enjoyed the dickens out of that game. It doesn't have permadeath like Roguelikes traditionally do, but you can always delete your character after you die if you wanna be hardcore. Me, I'm a wimp and did no such thing.

Variously, if you wanna go old skool, you could get Castle of the Winds, which is now freeware.

[[Edit: and how could I forget Rogue Survivor, for the zombie apocalypse lover in all of us?]]

Desktop Dungeons isn't all that difficult*, really. Just slow down and think about what you're doing; there's a lot of simple arithmetic involved. Once you understand the rules (there's a wiki about those somewhere, too), you should have no problems with the initial dungeons.

* Except beating a Crypt with a Gorgon. That's pretty much the only thing that stops me from 100% completion.

Torchlight is fun, but somehow the randomness of it all bothers me too much. I don't really have the motivation to push forward in that game, when I know that there are no surprises to be had along the way.
Shining Force. And not the crap that's Shining Force Feather, I want a real sequel with classic gameplay!

...either that, or the entirety of Shining Force 3 translated and made available for PC.

Cheers for that! :D

I have Torchlight on my steam account (snapped it up for the $5 deal) and will install one day. :)

Anyway, regarding Desktop Dungeons, I can clear the WHOLE level except for that stupid one lvl 10 fuck-you boss. I can NEVER kill it. No matter what, no matter what shrine I pray to, no matter what spell I use etc etc. It shits me.
