Heya guys! I do enjoy myself some gaming, and I happen to have allot of downtime during my work (I'm a researcher, so i often have to wait for people to complete certain tasks) so I was thinking if anyone knew of a fun game that I could play at work? There is one catch: the game must be pausable at any point and time. I never know when the participant is done their task or if they want to ask me a question, and as such I need to be able to stop the game at any time (and resume later).

I love strategy and adventure games, but keep in mind that I'm using my laptop, and do not have a mouse (it just sits on my lap).

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :D!
Eador: Genesis. It's also light on system requirements so you will easily find it playable on a cheaper laptop if that's what you have in your lab or office.

I also highly recommend Heroes III.

I guess any turn-based game will satisfy that.

My suggestion: Etherlords 2
Book of Unwritten Tales is an awesome fantasy point and click adventure game that can be played on laptops and paused whenever you like.

MarcinKoni: snip
-Heroes of Might and Magic 3
-King of Dragon Pass
-Eador: Genesis
-Disciples 2

All those games are TBS. If you want something RTS, I warmly recommend Sacrifice, as it's one of the best games ever made.

The no mouse thing narrows it down a lot actually, especially when it comes to adventure games. Broken Sword 3 doesn't use mouse though and it's quite fun :).
I would agree with the Heroes III recommendations. If you're able to play that I'd suggest Age of Wonders as well.

EDIT: Didn't see the "No mouse" specification. Try Dune 1 .

Etherlords 2 is a fun game but the battles can get drawn out and as far as I remember you can't save and resume during them.

But no one will attack you if it's your turn you let it alone, right? ;p

Yeah but it might not be appropriate for a researcher having a game running in the background ALT TABed.
Also he might be doing research on a shitty computer, depends largely on the research so it might hog the system. Yeah that's a weak argument. :P

But anyway you can't shut down the game during battles and then resume them later.

Oh, but you made me recall something...
Alt+Tab doesn't work with this game!

That made me realise that I almost never ALT TABed during gaming before steam and all the gazillions of chat programs. Probably that's why I didn't know this.
Now you made me feel old. Shame on you! ;)

Sooorry...
but yeah.. no alt+tab or windowed gaming with that.

and hey, it's not my fault. (you just have to look at those dirty diapers you're using ;p)
Alpha Centauri, Master Of Orion, Colonization, Call To Power 2, just use the arrow keys to move the cursor around.
