So sorry to do this in here but does anyone know how to change the key bindings in this game? I want to try other setups but all it does when I try to change it to something else is change the binding to "right rudder". In fact this also keeps me from using the joystick for player#1 because I can't switch it off from player#2 not that it matters in that regard.

Again I feel like shit for posting this in the reg forum but the game forum seems dead and I'm so itching for some mindless blasting.

All it says is "right rudder?" That's funny.

I don't have the game installed now. Is there any configuration files for the bindings? If there are, change them manually then right click the file, then properties and then check "read only". That way the game won't change them.

If that doesn't work you could use something like GlovePIE or AutoHotkey to change E to F for example and then bypass the default settings in the game. Takes a bit of work but it's definitely worth it.

I went into the key config txt and reversed all the numbers for player 1 and 2 so now I can use the gamepad for player 1, but the settings are just numbers and if I wanted to change to say mouse control I'd have to keep guessing numbers 1-500 until I got it right. Actually here is a paste from the config.txt.

* Controller Options

Player_1_up [200]
Player_1_down [208]
Player_1_left [203]
Player_1_right [205]
Player_1_fire1 [57]
Player_1_fire2 [42]
Player_1_fire3 [29]
Player_1_fire4 [56]

Player_1_fire5 [44]
Player_1_fire6 [45]

Player_2_up [256]
Player_2_down [257]
Player_2_left [258]
Player_2_right [259]
Player_2_fire1 [260]
Player_2_fire2 [262]
Player_2_fire3 [261]
Player_2_fire4 [263]
Player_2_fire5 [266]
Player_2_fire6 [267]
Those numbers correspond to a specific key and they likely follow some rule. The problem is to figure out what type. I'm sure someone here with programming experience could figure it out.
Those numbers are probably scancodes.
From what I gather you want to play with a gamepad, you can try to change the player two configuration, give it some keys you don't intend to use so the joy-axis become free and then you can bind them for player one.
If you have a Logi gamepad you can also make a profile for Expandable and swap the axis.

What I want is WASD + the Mouse but I don't know the codes for those keys.

GOT IT!

It hates my Logitech Controller. :(
As soon as I unplugged it started responding to rebinding AND it stopped skipping and slowing down.

ps. The answer to the following gets the answer rep.
Since I have to unplug my pad to play and plug it in to play something else, is that bad for my computer to constantly be doing that?

It should not, USB allows for hotplugging so it shouldn't fry anything except memorysticks.

Software configuration issues on the other hand....

I don't use any software for my game pad.

I meant it in general, Windows might start to complain.

Of course, I could just go into control panel and disable the controller. "Dawn breaks on marble head."

Time to buy it on GOG and throw away the CD! :D (or sell it if it's worth it)

You could always wait for a sale.

Or you know, if money isn't an issue or it's your favourite game I doubt $6 will make much difference. :)
