I don't think "banning" is viable solution for keeping anything away, let alone sex offenders.
If New Yorks knows the adresses of these people why aren't they working to change their behavior and cure their sickness?

On the other hand, being declared a sex offender by US law doesn't seem to be a very approriate title so this is whole thing doesn't seem appropriate at all.

This feels very wrong.
I don't know what is worse? This thread, or the fact that I'm sitting here at 5 am and reading it.

Can't we talking about something else, something cute, like kittens?
I've got to wonder If they wish to keep punishing them with things like this then why bother letting them out of gaol in the first place?

Thumbs Up!
I really don't know anything about the mentality of sex offenders, but I think Immoli summed it up quite well.

Or we could just go back to having asylums and throwing them in there so we don't have to deal with them, just like in the good ol' days! :-)

Sex offenders leads you to think of kittens => Beastiality! Reported to authorities!

jodaniel3: Also, fuck New York City. That place is the shining example of a nanny state. I hope Bloomberg gets caught with a prostitute.

Sorry, had to get that out.
Never been to America, why exactly New York is a Nanny state?

when I hear "Nanny state" the first thing that comes to my mind is the UK and London...
That's really fucking stupid, you're not going to stop anyone from getting online - not in this day and age. All this has succeeded in doing is driving them to subvert their online activities. What's to stop them using a VPN or using an internet cafe, library or someone else's wi-fi - they could have easily just monitored their online activities, now they won't be able to.

The states is really batshit about things like this, there is no way this act will help to protect children or rehabilitate sex offenders. Gaming might be their only hobby and you know what they say about idle hands.

Us people are crazy. I can always count on them for a laugh... if only Europe wasn't imitating.

Seriously now, I don't get this eternal punishment mentality. A sex offender, any sex offender, gets caught and pays his penalty (fine, jailtime, whatever). After that, he should be clean. I can understand measures being taken to repeat offenders or people deemed particularly dangerous, but this kind of measures as rule to every one of them? It's preposterous.

Leaving aside that, as it's been mentioned, sex offender doesn't equal pedophile (or I miss something on the translation), the whole situation is insane. If they're going to forbid them from going online because they might get in contact with a minor and which might them think about crimes they might commit, why allow them go to supermarkets? You can find many kids there, one would assume it would generate more evil thoughts. In fact, they shouldn't go out on the street, there's a chance for them to see kids in there. So, why release them in the first place? They should just keep them locked away forever. And, if they're not going to ever release them, why not just execute them all?

People deserve a second chance, and things like this don't help. I can support rules similar, but less idiotic, than this one for particular/extreme cases, but never as the norm.

Microsoft also doesn't allow Xbox live silver members to play online.
They treat silver members like sex offenders that is sick! *shakes fist in anger*
