I don't think Tyrion is anything like he is in the books; book Tyrion is an insecure, unfettered mess, whereas the show tries to paint him as some wise, hero kind character.

Also, I don't think they'll reach ADWD till at least season 6 or 7. But who knows at this point, they might finish before the books because the kid actors are getting older.

Book Tyrion is a mess in that somehow all his plans get ruined, and yet he still ends up getting himself out of trouble. Or from worse trouble into lesser trouble. And I feel like it is actually the closest thing that ASoIaF has to a "hero" character since Ned was killed off (and he was too "heroic" for the tone of the books anyway). Everyone is a horrible, horrible person (except for like Bran--but he is 8, so I don't know if that counts). And so the only "adult" character who is likeable is Tyrion in the books. So it makes sense for the show to make him even more so (because really, he isn't even that likeable. He just is sort of the most likeable of the options).

Hm, I used to have a whole host of examples about how he's alive to this point because GRRM likes him, and he couldn't have survived otherwise. But as it has been almost three years since I read the series, I can't remember jack ^^ Or just barely.

But yeah, I like messy, insecure Tyrion, so I am not really a fan of how the character comes off in the show. It's whatever, though- the show doesn't need to religiously follow the books, plus the show writers should get to exercise their own interpretation/creativity as this is their adaptation.

Overall, it does make me glad to know that Tyrion might make it to the end of the series because of GRRM's bias; hey, nothing wrong with having a favourite character :p No jinxes/knocked wood!

I think they're still on the third book, which they split into season 3 and 4. I read somewhere that the producers don't expect GoT to go on past 7 seasons. GRRM also went over with them how he wants the story to end so I'm pretty sure they've got an idea on how they'll end the series if GRRM doesn't finish his last novel before the show's over.

Yeah, I would really be upset if GRRM kills off Tyrion. He is one of the best characters in the series. But yeah, there are tons of times when I was expecting him to die (first the capture in the Vale, then every ten minutes while he was in King's Landing, and then most recently

when he fell off the boat into the river and almost (might actually have it anyway?) got Greyscale. I mean, I feel like he and Dany are not necessarily going to get along. But I don't expect her to be any more likely to kill him than Cersei was--and he didn't die then. So....

But yeah, I think that he might make it to the end. He is definietly a "main" and important character. Though resigned to a background role in the overall plot of whatever happens with the "Fire" and "Ice" that will eventually converge (just as, I think, Bran is a background character, but will be extremely important).

Oh, oh, and when he's about get his face axed in, but that kid whats-his-name, saves him. Or when Oberyn (sp?) magically appears out of nowhere to fight for him, and die in his stead.

But yeah, I am okay with this too, haha. Plus, Tyrion is so entertaining, but I do feel like GRRM holds him from his potential because he's tries to make him "good". Really annoying.

I would say Jon (Snow) could be considered a "hero" character
Jamie has his redemptive arc improving him

I've read Stannis being called the Mannis by friends, and also read it online several times, so it's a thing people do, haha. It's supposed to be a play on him being the man to support, or something.

But yeah, we can't be sure about what happens. I do think, however, that any character, except Tyrion, is fair game- seriously, if your friends have a pool going, he's the safest best next to Sam!

As for Tyrion's characteristics, I think what happened is that show's interpretation got lots of praise and favour, so it's possible that some of that might have leaked into the books; I know it did with Osha. Or maybe he's developing as a character, but I can't say for sure right now.

Yeah, I agree with that. No one is safe but it also doesn't mean that everyone is bound to die. (In the story at least:-))

I don't know, I find him fairly consistent since the beginning.
Also Osha isn't in the books past Clash of Kings I think and that one was written long before TV series so I am not sure what you mean by leaking.
