Hah. Just rewatched Batman Begins (surprisingly good on second vision, possibly the best of the trilogy, but possibly requiring the others in order to be balanced and appreciated better), and, yargl : King Joffrey. Freaked me out more than Cillian Murphy.

bevinator: I'm really mad that Hollywood is allergic to ugly. It really wouldn't kill them to cast people that aren't good-looking, especially in roles where BEING UGLY IS IMPORTANT TO THEIR CHARACTER. They can't even do plainness anymore, much less ugliness.
I'd rather have actors that were believable and good. I think you are referring to Tyrion and Brienne. Both characters were described as hideous and that they belonged in a freak show. However, both of those actors are great castings despite not capturing the ugly freakishness of the books.
From the book I expected Cersei to be one of the most attractive women in the kingdom, yet she is average at best. Despite her bland looks she is another great casting for the part. In fact whoever did the casting did one hell of a job in my opinion.

Niggles: For those who have read the books, how close (or loose..) are the tv series compared to the books atm?.
avatar
theslitherydeee: Pretty close on overall arc. The books have a ton of sub plots.
There are a few minor characters in the book that get fleshed out more in the show. Like Loras Tyrell and Renly...they were just mentioned in the books.

real.geizterfahr: Uhm... I still haven't finished season 3 :/ Somehow I got annoyed by the "mature theme" of the series, which HBO translated to tits, pussies and sex scenes in Littlefinger's brothels -.- I have nothing against nudity, don't get me wrong, I love nude women. But in my opinion they overdid it to a point, where it isn't "mature" anymore. There's barely an episode without nudity. Just look at Ros for example. Her character was created for the TV series (= she is not in the books) and her role essentially is to walk around naked...
The books had quite a bit of nudity and sex in them. I really don't see how anybody that has read the books glossed over all that during their read through. Is their a PG-13 version of the books running around that I missed?

South Park described game of thrones as having lots of floppy weiners and GRR Martin just had a thing for floppy weiners.

Season 4 begins tonight with its first episode.

I just want to say am I the only one who does not care for Daenerys Targaryen? When I rented the DVDs I always skip her segments because I just find it mot interesting I care more about whats going on in Westeros and the War of Five Kings. I already know her plot in this story, but so far her plot is just dragging on, I rather just wait until she finally lands on Westeros with her Army at last.
I lost interest for Game of Thrones since I discovered The Banner Saga.

Telika: No.
There's also Dragon Age: Origins and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions which have very A Song of Ice and Fire=like plots and settings.
It airs at 2am tonight here in the UK :o totally staying up to watch it.

By 'staying up', I mean just watching it, as I'm always awake at that time anyway. But still.
My friend was joking "watch, I bet if I flip it on they'll be fucking"

and instead we got "HAVE YE EVA FUCKED A RIVAHLANDS GIRL?"

Even when they're not doing it they're talking about it.

I don't care about her. She is boring... She has almost no personality. If her husband didn't die the way he did, he would of died some episodes later by being bored to death. If she made a profile on an internet dating site it would be like "Hi, my name is Daenerys. I like dragons. I like power. I'm vindictive. I'm the last surviving member of House Targaryen. Feel free to message me if you are a powerful man who can help me increase the size of my army. ;)" and that's it. I feel sorry for the actress who plays her because with such a boring character, the audience can't really see how good of an actress she is...

I would not date her beacause she's another Blonde haired, blue eyed barbie doll who does not know the difference between a dragon and a wyvern :P

Anyway I saw the episode the story arc with Arya Stark and The Hound WAS AWESOME!!!
Jumping into this thread as a non-GoT show watcher, I have a question:

Is Dany actually super different from the books? Because I love her in A Song of Ice and Fire. It took a bit for me to really get her character, and enjoy her plot, but I am so much into House Targaryen (/really just Dany being the best).

Never read the books (but love to) so I have no comment.

I enjoyed it, they changed the actor for Daario Naharis didn't they? the guy playing him now is the guy from Nashville. It confused me.
